The Honey, I'm Good star lost his mum Kathryn to breast cancer in 2009 and he previously admitted he signed up to compete on the ballroom dancing programme because his mother was a big fan.

He paid tribute to her with his Viennese Waltz for Monday night's (02Nov15) Icons themed-episode, dancing to Stevie Wonder's Isn't She Lovely?, but his efforts weren't enough to save him and his professional partner Allison Holker from being voted off the show.

However, Grammer admits the emotional dance was a fitting way to depart the competition.

He tells U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America, "I came on this show because she (his mum) loved Dancing With the Stars and dance in general, so it's kind of full circle to have me leave on the night where I got to do a dance for her... It was a really emotional week."

He adds, "Grieving is such an interesting thing, and so I found that through dancing on this show, I was able to grieve for her, which sounds crazy, but that's real."

The six stars still in the competition include Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, Tamar Braxton, singer/actor Carlos PenaVega and his actress wife Alexa.
