Andy Samberg is engaged to respected harpist Joanna Newsom
Funnyman Andy Samberg is ready to settle down with his musician girlfriend Joanna Newsom, after asking her to marry him. A representative for the comedian confirmed to Us Weekly magazine that Newsom accepted the recent proposal, five years after the couple started dating.
It's an oddball romance at first glance, though Samberg was smitten with the 31-year-old musician even before they met. "He liked her music and would go to her shows," a pal revealed last year. "He had the biggest crush on her." Newsom, an American harpist, pianist, vocalist and songwriters, first gained prominence with her sophomore record 'Ys' - often considered among the greatest albums of the 2000s. Despite this, it reached just No.134 on the Billboard 200 and No.41 on the UK Albums chart.
One of the world's most respected musicians, Newsom is equally enamoured by her beau's musical prowess. "She respects what he does with his songs," the source added, referring to Samberg's quirky tracks with comedy troupe Lonely Island. "She's so proud of everything that he has accomplished."
Despite the engagement, don't exact to see Samberg and Newsom at the next Hollywood premiere. Us weekly says the couple prefer "quiet date nights at home."
