Anne Hathaway came in for some undeserving criticism at the Oscars on Sunday (February 24, 2013), despite winning Best Supporting Actress in one of the most one-sided categories in Academy Awards history.

First was the criticism of her wardrobe choice after she swiftly swapped Valentino for Prada after seeing Amanda Seyfried's outfit. Then came discontent over her apparently well-rehearsed acceptance speech, deemed disrespectful to her fellow nominees. Ms Hathaway is by no means our favourite actress, though who can blame her for going over her lines a couple of times? She'd won the Oscar the moment she signed up for Les Miserables.

Anyway, Hathaway has found a friend in Girls star Lena Dunham who jumped to the actress's defense on Twitter. "Ladies: Anne Hathaway is a feminist and she has amazing teeth. Let's save our bad attitudes for the ones who aren't advancing the cause," she posted.

For reasons unknown, Lena came in for a barrage of criticism herself, adding, "Hey ragers. 'The ones who aren't advancing the cause' I mentioned aren't always, or mostly, women. Case in point: I saw your boobs." The writer and actress was referring to Seth MacFarlane's poorly received skit at the Oscars in which he sang about the bare breasts of Hollywood's leading ladies. After one of the worst reviewed shows in recent years, the Family Guy man says there's "no way," he'll host again.

Nevertheless, Dunham continued to come in for criticism for her tweets, telling followers, "Now I've said something murky about women's lib and will return to eating edamame/thinking about moving to Austin like I always do!"

Season two of Girls is currently airing on HBO.
