The Shower will centre on baby shower attendees who have to fight off invading aliens following a meteor shower.

Hathaway will produce the female-centric movie alongside husband Adam Shulman, screenwriter Jac Schaeffer and Ralph Lauren's son Andrew.

She says, "Jac has written an awesome sci-fi comedy centred around funny, fully dimensional female characters. I feel so lucky to be a part of the team that will bring her enormously talented and fresh voice to the big screen."

Schaeffer adds, "Anne is the perfect actor to anchor a story that is ultimately about female friendship, with a lot of a**-kicking along the way."

Moviemakers are currently seeking a director and additional castmembers before shopping the film to studio executives.
