Last nights celebration of the 39th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly, Los Angeles, belonged to one man; General Hospital star Anthony Geary.

The win marked his seventh Daytime Emmy award, making him the only actor thus far to accomplish the impressive feat. He walked away with the award for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series" at the end of the night.

Geary is now into his fourth decade in the role of Dr Luke Spencer, thrilling daytime soap opera fans as the romantic heartthrob of the long-running series. On the night, the show had 23 Emmy nominations, but Geary's win was easily the most noteworthy.

Geary gave tribute to the actors he beat, stating that they were all robbed of the award. Geary then thanked the cast and production crew and gave a special appraisal to the writers of the show, followed by a little speech spoken in Italian. Anthony's role on the show sees him play a character with an Italian background.

The show also won the awards for Outstanding Drama Series, as well as the awards for Supporting Actor and Actress in a Drama Series, awarded to Jonathan Jackson and Nancy Lee Grahn respectively.
