Sir Anthony Hopkins tops a stellar cast for the HBO series 'Westworld', produced by J.J Abrams and written by Jonathan Nolan.
Sir Anthony Hopkins has signed on for HBO's television adaptation of the 1973 dystopian movie, Westworld. Michael Crichton's movie was set in an amusement park of the future, populated by life-like cyborgs.

HBO has officially green-lit the series after a successful pilot episode by Jonathan Nolan (Interstellar), which was co-written by Christopher Nolan and Lisa Joy. Star Wars director JJ Abrams will act as executive producer.

Hopkins will play Dr Robert Ford, the aloof director of the Westworld theme park. The park is suddenly transformed into something akin to a warzone when its central computer malfunctions and forces two visitors into a cat-and-mouse chase with a gun-slinging android cowboy.

The original movie starred Yul Brynner as the cyborg gunslinger, though it is believed that Ed Harris may play the role in the new series. According to the Hollywood Reporter, James Marsden, Thandie Newton and the excellent Evan Rachel Wood will play androids who can be killed off and returned with different personas. Miranda Otto and Jeffrey Wright have also signed on for the project.

"This is built as a series and, in terms of storytelling, I think the rules are definitely being broken," HBO programming president Michael Lombardo told THR in August of Westworld. "The promise of the show, in terms of where it's going, is exciting to actors, and they want to be a part of this."
The sci-fi western is being produced by Abrams and his Bad Robot Productions co-founder Bryan Burk, as well as Jerry Wentraub, Nolan, and Joy.
Jonathan Nolan is also working on an adaptation of Isaac Asimov's Foundation for HBO.
