Arctic Monkeys kicked off the first night of their UK tour at Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena on Tuesday evening (October 22, 2013), reports NME.com.

Supported by buzz band The Strypes, the band played to a sell-out crowd and opened up with Do I Wanna Know, the first single from acclaimed new record AM.

Despite rarely addressing the crowd throughout, the band mixed new tracks including Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? and Knee Socks with classics Mardy Bum, Dancing Shoes, I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor and Teddy Picker.

Frontman Alex Turner - sporting his Elvis-inspired quiff - offered, "Thank you, thank you very much" before dedicating I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor to "all the Geordie lasses."

It came after Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis appeared to mock Turner after accepting the Q Award for Best Live Band ahead of the Arctic Monkeys, Mumford & Sons, Muse and The Stone Roses this week. "It shows you don't need a backing track, you don't need affectation, you don't need Elvis Presley impersonations."

Watch the Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High video:

After some fans at Glastonbury claimed Turner had adopted an Elvis impersonation and lost his Sheffield accent, the frontman explained, "I've been pointing my hands for ages though! Maybe it's just the quiff confusing people? Jo Whiley just said I was channeling my inner Elvis, but I dunno man. It's not intentional!"
