Ariana Grande definitely has the Christmas spirit with her latest single all about the big red man himself: Santa Tell Me. The video for the 21-year-old songstress’s newest tune hit the airways late last week and shows the American hitmaker in a playful Christmassy mood.

In the song, Ariana asks Father Christmas to let her know if the boy she likes will be staying around so that she won’t get her heartbroken.

She sings: "Santa tell me if you’re really there, don’t make me fall in love again if he won’t be here next year."

But with such legendary Christmas hits like Mariah’s All I Want for Christmas and other festive classics including Fairytale in New York from the Pogues, is there room on the December playlist for a new Santa song?

Initial reception for this time-sensitive tune was generally positive and it definitely has a warm, feel good element to it.

But critics have been quick to compare it to Miss Carey’s classic with USA Today claiming: "As an attempt at a seasonal staple along the lines of All I Want for Christmas Is You, it falls short, coming across like a jingly cross-breed version of Wham!’s Last Christmas and Amy Grant’s Baby Baby."

However, will Ariana’s core teen fans really even be aware of other xmas possibilities? Probably not and if Santa Tell Me is all they’ve got to go on, it’s a pretty good start.
