At just 21-years-old, Ariana Grande is currently taking the music world by storm and doing so with style. Described as the ‘new Mariah Carey’ by some critics, this pint-sized popstar has cemented herself as music’s newest sweetheart through several popular tunes, a breakout artist award and an audience with The White House.

So is Ariana the new Grand mistress of pop?

While she may have sprung up from nowhere on the music scene, Grande had already made a legion of fans through her role as Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon television series, Victorious. She stayed with the show throughout its run from 2010 to 2013 and continued in her role on the successful spin off show, Sam & Cat.

However, music superstardom was waiting just round the corner and, despite being a ratings success, Sam & Cat was cancelled in 2014 as a result of Grande’s rising music career.

And rising it was with Grande’s first single from her debut album, The Way, selling over 120,000 units in the first 48 hours of its release - the third best first-week sales figures in 2013 behind only Justin Timberlake himself and Britain’s super boy band, One Direction.

Her debut album, Yours Truly, debuted atop of the American chart, the Billboard 200 albums chart, and reached the top 10 in Australia, the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands.

Then came 2014 and, what appears to be, the year of Ariana.

In March 2014, Grande was invited by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to sing at the White Song concert, Women of Soul: In Performance at The White House - a celebration by The White House of great ‘foremothers’ of American music.

In addition, the popstress received the 2014 Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award from the Music Business Association.

Recently, Grande has been treating her fans to the latest offerings from her second album, My Everything, which is scheduled for release at the end of August. The lead single, Problem, featuring Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, has reached peak chart positions all over the world, including number 1 in the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands.

Her second single Break Free featuring producer Zedd has been described as ‘dance bliss’ and she’s also teamed up with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj on Bang Bang, to be featured on Grande’s second album and as the lead single for Jesse J’s third studio offering.

It seems like Grande can’t get enough of making good music and her fans certainly can’t get enough of hearing it.
