The battle for custody of child actress Ariel Winter rumbles on, with her mother Chrystal Workman’s attorneys apparently questioning Winter’s sister Shanelle Gray about her drug usage, in the hope that they might be able to use any admission against her when it comes to trying to prove she’s a bad guardian.

TMZ reports that Workman’s team were specifically asking Gray about her potential consumption of cocaine. Modern Family star Winter is currently at her sister’s following reports of mistreatment at the hands of her mother, but Workman is unhappy about the arrangement and is seeking to regain custody.

Workman’s attorneys came away frustrated after Gray didn’t offer up any answers that suggested any particular problem. She told them that she only tried cocaine once – in 2005 or 2006 at a party. The drug was apparently laced with something else and she ended up feeling sick from it. Gray was also questioned about whether she had ever received any DUI convictions; she said she was pulled over in Los Angeles – again either in 2005 or 2006 – and given a ticket on a night where she’d had “one glass of wine”. It was eventually thrown out after judges decided that her alcohol level was too low. It looks like Workman’s team are going to have dig a little deeper to find anything incriminating.

It’s been determined that Modern Family star Ariel Winter will remain in the care of her older sister for the next few weeks.

The Toronto Star reports that a court found that there had been evidence of emotional abuse towards the 14 year-old star by her mother Chrisoula Workman, with a child protective investigating group threatening to step in if Winter did not remain in a guardianship elsewhere. The initially stripping of custody occurred six weeks ago when Workman was found to have been emotionally and physically abusive towards the teenager, and the latest news means that a date of December 12 has been set to determine whether she should be placed in a permanent guardianship or not.

Shanelle Gray has currently been looking after Winter, a guardianship that has been contested by both Winter’s mother and father, Glenn Workman. For her part, Chrisoula is denying all claims of abuse, whilst Glenn wants to get to know his daughter better and has offered to take care of her. “Even the judge today agreed that reunification is so important for a family, and while Ariel is still temporarily with her sister for now, we remain hopeful she will be home soon,” the pair said in a statement. The issue with Gray also stems from the fact that she was taken from her mother Workman’s care in the 1990s amid accusations of abuse, acrimony still very much evident between the two parties.

A judge has finally decided on Ariel Winter’s guardianship case, ruling that the Modern Family actress will stay in the care of her sister Shanelle Gray, until a permanent decision can be reached regarding who should look after her.

Ariel’s mother Chris Workman has been denied guardianship, following allegations of abusive behaviour. She claims, however that the problems between Arield and her started when she caught the 14 year old behaving inappropriately with her boyfriend.

Shanelle Gray was taken out of Workman’s care, as she too was abused as a child. Workman’s guardianship was taken away when Ariel provided the courts with “substantiated evidence” that Workman had been ill-treating her. Ariel’s father, Glenn Workman also tried to put in a bid to become Ariel’s guardian but the judge said no. A new date has been set for trial, on December 12, 2012, to determine who will become Winter’s guardian, in the long term.

Teen actress Ariel Winter of the hit sitcom Modern Family will remain under the temporary guardianship of her sister, though a trial has been scheduled to decide her future home, according to the Los Angeles Times. L.A. County Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas said a county Department of Children Family Services report found that allegations concerning Winter's mother were substantiated.

Chrisoula Workman was stripped of custody of her daughter on October 3, 2012, though she denies all allegations of physical and mental abuse. "I would love to have my daughter home," she said outside of court Tuesday. "I love her with all my heart." For past couple of weeks, Winter, 14, has been in the care of her adult sister Shanelle Gray, who was also removed from her mother's care in the 1990's amid accusations of abuse. "Minor Ariel Workman has been a victim of on-going physical abuse (slapping, hitting, pushing) and emotional abuse (vile name-calling, personal insults about minor and minor's weight, attempts to sexualize minor, deprivation of food etc.) for an extended period of time by the minor's mother, Chrisoula Workman," Shanelle's attorneys said in a petition for guardianship. Though Ariel - who stars as Alex Dunphy on Modern Family - appears to want to stay with her sister, a judge will ultimately decide where she ends up. 

The all-important trial has been scheduled for December 12, 2012, though it would be unsurprising should this case drag on for months.

The fate of Ariel Winter, where she lives and who she lives with has apparently been left up to various members of her family and whoever of them can best convince the court in their favour. Her mother, sister and father are all vying for custody of the child who is currently 14 years old, but co-starring in the American comedy, Modern Family.

Originally it was reported that Winter had accused her mother, Christoula "Chrystal" Workman, of emotional and physical abuse. According to TMZ, the Dept. of Children and Family Services has reported that evidence is 'inconclusive' regarding whether Christoula was physically abusive towards Ariel, but that she did commit emotional abuse against her daughter. The situation has now escalated to the point that Ariel may become a ward of the state, unless her sister Chanelle Gray can convince the court otherwise, to grand her permanent guardianship.

According to People, her estranged father Glenn Workman suggested that he move into the family home to care for Ariel, forcing her mother to move out, but the judge ruled this out. The judge also ruled out on the claims that Christoula made against Shanelle, which claimed the sister was simply 'money-grabbing'. Apparently the court is easily wooed by 'eloquent' language, and ruled that she doesn't have "ulterior motives." Being just 14 years old, working on a hit TV show, while still trying to get school work done and somehow fit in a social life, Ariel Winter hasn't commented publicly at all on what's going on, we simply hope that whatever the outcome, it's the best one for her.

Fresh information has emerged surrounding Ariel Winter’s family abuse scandal, this time from her mother, the woman initially alleged to have hit Ariel.

According to TMZ, who say they have obtained court transcripts,Chrystal Workman told a guardianship judge, that when she confronted her daughter about her relationship with an 18-year-old boy, Ariel attacked her and threatened to make her pay. Before that, though, the court heard that Chrystal was "a terror on the set of 'Modern Family' and that the producer and others there have expressed grave concern ..." this according to the lawyer for Ariel's sister, Shanelle Workman, who also said, "The child [Ariel] is, apparently, struck repeatedly, slapped, hit, pushed, not so as to leave marks. Mother is smart enough not to do that." To which Chrystal said, "She is an actress so I'm sure she can cry at the drop of a hat," insinuating that the allegations are false. The lawyer for Shanelle also claimed Chrystal "sexualizes the child," and showed the judge a pic of Ariel "dressed up to show off her breasts and otherwise."

If the Ariel Winter drama hasn’t left you deeply confused and wanting to bash your own head against a Modern Family box-set, then you deserve a medal. Essentially, the comedy actress is at war with her own mother after she filed a police report on October 6, 2012, saying that she found her daughter and boyfriend Cameron Palatas in bed together despite a 4-year age difference.

Now it has emerged, via the New York Daily News, that Ariel and Cameron ended their courtship “way before” the young actress made the headlines last week. “They have been broken up for several months…It is really unfortunate Ariel's mom has drug Cameron through the mud here. Everything her mom has said has been untrue”. So why would Ariel’s mother lie about something like that? Well, we’re not the wiser, but she’s sticking by her original story, saying, “Yes, I stand by (the police report)…I can’t say anything more. This is a very sad situation. Just pray for my family.” A Los Angeles judge handed temporary guardianship of Ariel to her older sister Shanelle Gray last month, so this is likely to have something to do with the drama ensuing in the household.

In a statement released last week, Workman said she was forced to intervene in her daughter’s love life, “My fourteen year old daughter has been dating an eighteen and a half year old man and when I caught them engaging in behavior that I feel my daughter is too you mentally and physically to understand and fully grasp I put a stop to it immediately,” she said. No doubt we’ll have more soon. 

TMZ brought the news to light last week that the Modern Family star Ariel Winter had been placed under the guardianship of her older sister Shanelle Workman, after accusing her mother, Chrystal Workman, of emotional and physical abuse. This week, as more testimonies come forward in support of both sides of the argument, the whole thing seems incredibly tangled and no one outside the drama can tell where the truth lies.

According to a source that worked on The Chaperone, a film in which Winter co-starred, Winter's mother was controlling and overly critical, making comments to the directors and writers. She also, apparently, bossed around the production assistants. However, the source added that her behaviour didn't seem abusive. Chrystal has also accused Ariel's boyfriend, Cameron Palatas of statutory rape, after having found the 18 year old in bed with Ariel, who is just 14. Now, Sterling Beaumon, a close friend of Winter has said that she is "She's in a much better situation now" living with her sister, which seems to imply that the accusations are true. He added "I can say that [Ariel is] not lying ... there's no reason for her to lie about something like this." 

As yet there has been no public statement from Ariel, her own publicists or anyone from Modern Family. Although we certainly hope the accusations aren't true, for now we'll have to keep speculating, and merely hope that wherever Ariel is she's safe and happy.  

News that Ariel Winter had been removed from her mother's home and relocated to live with her sister, amid fears that her mother was abusing her, shocked the nation. TMZ reported on Wednedsay (7th Nov. 2012) that the Modern Family star filed for legal emancipation from her mother. However, after two days numerous more reports supporting both sides of the argument have come forward. 

Naturally, Chrystal Workman, Ariel's mother, is denying all the allegations. According to a report from TMZ yesterday (8th Nov. 2012) Workman claims that Ariel has been fabricating claims against her, because Workman stopped the 14 year old having sex with her 18 year old boyfriend. "My fourteen-year-old daughter has been dating an eighteen-and-a-half-year-old man, and when I caught them engaging in behavior that I feel my daughter is too young mentally and physically to understand and fully grasp I put a stop to it immediately." She added that she has filed a report with the police, "because legally he is an adult and if he wants to engage in adult behavior with a minor than [sic] he should also be ready to suffer adult consequences for his actions." They also report that Chrystal has accused her eldest daughter Shanelle, with whom Ariel is now living, of money grabbing- the court documents apparently refute this.

In the midst of all the drama, Ariel hasn't said a word, but in an exclusive statement to People, her attorney said: "Ariel is doing well and she has a lot of people who are loving her and supporting her at this time, and I'm pretty confident that she'll fare well through all of this." Adding "She is obviously a very smart and articulate young lady and an accomplished actress."

The story surrounding Ariel Winter’s alleged abuse at the hands of her mother seems to be getting stranger by the minute.

The original news broke that Ariel had been placed under the temporary guardianship of her sister, Shanelle, as Ariel had been subjected to abuse at the hands of her own mother, Chrystal Workman. According to court papers filed by the Modern Family actress, her mother had subjected her to “ongoing physical abuse (slapping, hitting, pushing) and emotional abuse (vile name-calling, personal insults about minor and minor's weight, attempts to 'sexualize' the minor, deprivation of food, etc.) for an extended period of time.”

Then came the news that Workman claimed to have discovered her daughter engaging in inappropriate behaviour with her eighteen year-old boyfriend. In an attempt to further smear her daughters and clear her own name, Workman has now claimed that Shanelle is simply trying to access her sister’s money. TMZ report that Chrystal has claimed that Shanelle asked a court to grant her access to Ariel’s bank accounts.
