Armie Hammer Discusses THOSE Green Lantern Rumours

Armie Hammer

When it comes to the DC Extended Universe, those behind the movies that make up the franchise to-date have been meticulous and careful when casting the beloved superheroes and villains that have graced the big screen. While we've seen the likes of Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and even Jared Leto as the Joker, there are still some characters left to be cast.

One of those is Green Lantern, who will of course play a huge part in the planned 2020 movie 'Green Lantern Corps'. For a while, rumours have been rampant as to who exactly will be taking on the titular role in the flick, with a variety of different names floating around.

Ben Wheatley Threw His Cast Into Free Fire

Ben Wheatley Brie Larson Armie Hammer Sharlto Copley

Ben Wheatley is happy that these are small-budget movies made on his own terms. After finishing High-Rise with Tom Hiddleston and Luke Evans, he turned to Free Fire. The idea came from reading transcripts of real police shootouts that are far messier than the movies ever portray them. "That was the beginning point for me," Wheatley says. "I thought maybe there's something in this, a procedural thing about people in a gun battle in real time. I'm not saying that Free Fire is a documentary or massively realistic, but it relies on some of that realism."

He has to start realising that his days of being a freshly-painted rookie are long over, and with each generation the champions only get stronger and faster. But he's just not ready to pack it all in just yet, even with competition the likes of the high-tech Jackson Storm. McQueen enlists the help of an enthusiastic young race technician named Cruz Ramirez, who teaches him that there are ways he can make it to the top again - he's just got to think outside the box.

The Birth Of A Nation Review

Very Good

This true story from 19th century America feels eerily relevant today in its depiction of the divisions that define society. It's an engaging film, sharply written and directed by actor Nate Parker to pull the audience into the world of a black preacher whose conscience simply can't take the injustice any longer. Some of the themes feel a little pushy, but the film has real power.

It opens in 1809 Virginia, where the soft-spoken Nat (Parker) works as a slave for benevolent owner Sam (Armie Hammer). The two grew up together, so Sam is familiar with Nat's intelligence and passion, and also with the fact that Sam's mother (Penelope Ann Miller) encouraged Nat to read and study the Bible. In fact, Nat is such a great preacher that Sam loans him to fellow slave owners to convey the Old Testament "slaves obey your owners" message. But Nat realises that he can't continue with this after his wife Cherry (Aja Naomi King) is brutally attacked by the cruel slave tracker Cobb (Jackie Earle Haley). And once Nat decides he can no longer support the immorality and injustice of the system, he has little choice but to lead a slave revolt.

Parker's script recounts Nat's life story with telling details, contrasting his engaging courtship with Cherry with the series of insults they suffer at every turn. Living amid such systemic degradation, exploitation and violence simply gnaws away at Nat, and Parker underplays him beautifully, letting the charisma surge quietly under the surface. Hammer is solid as Sam, although his innate compassion leaves Haley to play the villain of the piece. As always, Haley is great at this, igniting loathing from the audience with his first appearance. All of the surrounding characters are played with a lovely sense of realism, adding hints of texture to each scene but never too much personality.

Nocturnal Animals Trailer

For a short time, Edward and Susan had a happy marriage, they lived in a nice neighbourhood, Susan had a good career and Edward was not far from taking the bar. Susan lives a fast-paced life and as such barely sleeps and Edward would somewhat affectionately tell her that she's a 'nocturnal animal'.

25 years later, Susan has remarried a serial philanderer and her life is far from happy. Unexpectedly a manuscript arrives at her door titled 'Nocturnal Animals' and with the dedication to 'Susan'. She pushes the pages aside and decides to leave them but eventually she can't help but start to read the book that she inspired Edward to write.

The story that unfolds is an incredibly dark tale of murder and revenge and Susan is shocked and traumatised that she would play such a pivotal role in the creation of such a dark piece of work. Susan's interpretation and retelling of the story soon impacts on her life and is unsure how Edward's return into her life will turn out.

Nat Turner was a former slave who on witnessing the scope of slavery across America chose to head a liberation movement in the form of a slave rebellion that resulted in a violent retaliation from the white supremacists in Virginia, 1831. This periodic drama film introduces the audience to the world in which Black people were enslaved in - inhumanly treated at the peril of the white race. The chilling shot of a young white child playing a game with a lynching rope around another black girls neck represents this serious period of history in a thought provoking scene.

When actor Paul Walker was killed in a car accident halfway through shooting the seventh 'Fast & Furious' movie, director James Wan made the difficult decision to finish the film, completing Walker's performance using both stand-ins and digital effects created from existing footage.

On The Eve Of "Lone Ranger" UK Premiere, Bruckheimer Blames Malicious Critics For Poor Reception [Trailer + Pictures]

Jerry Bruckheimer Gore Verbinski Armie Hammer Johnny Depp

The Lone Ranger is just opening in the UK this weekend, but Disney’s latest attempt at a blockbuster seems pretty much dead on arrival. It stars Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer and is a product of the creative director/producer team of Gore Verbinski and Jerry Bruckheimer. So, if the talent is all there (after all, the team’s last franchise, Pirates of the Carribbean, became a long-running success for Disney), what was it that made Lone Ranger just so… unwatchable?

What do you think of Lone Ranger at this point? Catch the trailer below.

Johnny Depp: "Critics Wrote 'Lone Ranger' Reviews 8 Months Ago"

Johnny Depp and his Lone Ranger co-stars have fired back at US critics ahead of the big-budget western's British release this week. The Gore Verbinski helmed movie, starring Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the Ranger, was mauled by critics stateside and opened to just $29 million.

"I think the reviews were written 7-8 months before we released the film," Depp told Yahoo Movies: "I think the reviews were written when they heard Gore [Verbinksi] and Jerry [Bruckheimer] and me were going to do 'The Lone Ranger'. They had expectations that it must be a blockbuster. I didn't have any expectations of that. I never do."

The Lone Ranger Bombs At Cinemas, But How Does It Compare To The Worst Box Office Bombs?

Johnny Depp Armie Hammer Ron Howard Brian Grazer Eddie Murphy Matthew Mcconaughey Steve Zahn Penelope Cruz

Jerry Bruckheimer and Johnny Depp back together in another swashbuckling adventure, what could possibly go wrong? Unfortunately for Disney, a lot did go wrong with The Lone Ranger; no one was interested in a big screen version of a 1930s radio series. Johnny Depp is starting to lose his box office appeal and, ultimately, it was terrible. But hey, at least there's worse film right?

Lone Ranger
The Lone Ranger probably wont make it into the top five

The film isn't out of cinemas yet, so we can't really say how much it will lose (who knows, it might have the best week three in cinema history), but we can assume it will sit nicely next to Disney's last big box office flop: 2012's John Carter. Speaking of John Carter, when it comes to the top box office flops, the confused martian adventure doesn't even break into the top ten. Here's the five worst performing films of all time.

Box Office Review: Lone Ranger Gets Unhorsed, As "Despicable Me 2" Rides On To The Weekend Top Spot

This week’s box office isn’t offering any surprises – the adorable yellow minions of Despicable Me 2 dominated the chart, while Lone Ranger went into the weekend hoping to minimize losses. On Friday, three days into its release, the animated feature had clocked in at $59 million, with the prediction of weekend sales putting it at a comfy $130 by the end of the five day period, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The Lone Ranger Takes $10 Million. Just $205 Million To Go, Then.

Johnny Depp Gore Verbinski Armie Hammer Steve Carell Disney

The Lone Ranger took another $10 million on the 4th of July to take its overall total to just $20 million heading into the weekend. Gore Verbinski's new movie, starring Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as John Reid, is tracking for a five-day total of just $45 million - miles off its reported $225 million budget.

In contrast, the minions of Despicable Me 2 are celebrating after a huge $34.3 million opening day on July 3, which sees it pacing to wrap the weekend with $125 million, almost double its budget. The original movie, starring Steve Carell as the evil genius Gru, earned $56.4 million during a more traditional three-day opening in July 2010.

Disney staff have presumably entered the sweepstakes to guess which executive will be clearing their desk first after this mess. The Lone Ranger is potentially another John Carter - the big budget flop that cost studio boss Rich Ross his job. Everyone concerned will be preying that Depp's name on the posters will be enough to pull in the crowds over the July 4th weekend, though a slew of horrible reviews and a less than prominent promotional campaign has not helped the cause.

Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer have close connections to the characters they play in the Disney's The Lone Ranger. Research by Ancestry.com has revealed the stars are both separately descended from two American freedom fighters: one an African American woman and the other a Cherokee leader.

Johnny Depp stars in the Jerry Bruckheimer re-make as Tonto a Native American who aids the Lone Ranger, played by Armie Hammer. A typical 'Cowboys and Indians' adaptation with just enough Pirates of the Caribbean swash buckling as can possibly be crammed into the mid-west.

The Curious Partnership Between Armie Hammer And Johnny Depp In "The Lone Ranger"

Johnny Depp Armie Hammer

The Lone Ranger – out July 3 – might be named after lead character John Reid, played by Armie Hammer, but, as often happens in these situations, Johnny Depp has been stealing the spotlight of late. Note: by these situations, we mean generally every movie Depp does. While Hammer, who, aside from having the misfortune of being named Armie Hammer is a pretty chill guy, plays the title character, Depp is cast as his Comanche sidekick, Tonto. And despite the cultural appropriation inherent in that casting choice, Depp has apparently given the role the appropriate amount of thought and research. "I'm proud to show [this film] to the Comanche Nation and members of the Indian Nations first," Depp said Friday, according to The Lawton Constitution.”

Johnny Depp Shares Exclusive 'Lone Ranger' Footage At CinemaCon [Trailer]

Johnny Depp Jerry Bruckheimer Armie Hammer

Johnny Depp and director Gore Verbinski shared 20 minutes of exclusive footage from The Lone Ranger at CinemaCon on Wednesday (April 17, 2013), while Disney confirmed it would release the next three Star Wars sequels every summer beginning with Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015.

The Lone Ranger - which cost $225 million to make - is the riskiest title of the summer. Though it boasts a huge pedigree, with Depp on-screen, Verbinski behind the camera and Jerry Bruckheimer producing, there's little evidence that audiences actually want this movie. Still, the audience appeared to respond well to the exclusive footage at CinemaCon and the cast and crew remain confident. "We saw the picture yesterday and it looks terrific," said Disney chairman Alan Horn, who led the company's presentation. One exhibitor told the Hollywood Reporter, "It looks good," which doesn't exactly scream "Award winner!" but we guess it's something.  In the first clip shown, the Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer) and Tonto (Depp) meet for the first time, while in the second, Tonto saves the Lone Ranger from near-certain death.

As well as the Star Wars announcement, Disney pushed the fact that it now owns Marvel Studios, LucasFilm and Pixar. Horn also treated exhibitors to a full screening of Pixar's Monster's University. The animated prequel hits theaters in the U.S. on 21 June 2013.

New Trailer For The Lone Ranger Reveals More Of Johnny Depp’s Tonto

Johnny Depp Armie Hammer Gore Verbinski

A new trailer for The Lone Ranger reveals a little more of what everybody wanted to see; Johnny Depp as Tonto. Where the first trailer gave an overview of the movie, this latest promo features on the relationship between Tonto (Depp) and The Lone Ranger (played by Armie Hammer). Depp in comic mode is always a joy to behold, even if his comic characters all seem to have merged into a variation on a theme these days.

There’s one scene where the horse is up a tree and Depp, in a deadpan voice, delivers the line “There's something very wrong with that horse,” not long after he’s seen explaining to the Lone Ranger “Eight men rode into canyon. I dug seven graves. Horse says you are a spirit walker, a man who has been to the other side and returned - a man who cannot be killed in battle." If the movie is peppered with comic moments such as this, director Gore Verbinski could have a real treat on his hands here. Let’s just hope he’s not been too reliant on Depp’s screen charms though; too much and it could be overkill.

Speaking about his two central characters, Verbinski said “I have always been intrigued by characters who exist at times of monumental change. They are somehow cast against the events that engulf them and magnified. The Lone Ranger is a story of two outcasts bonded by adversity at a time when the lines between right and wrong have become blurred. With no well defined beacons to aid them, and no tribe to return to, they are a glorious pair of misfits: A band apart." The Lone Ranger isn’t out until summer 2013 but anticipation for the movie is already mounting.

The Lone Ranger Trailer

John Reid bears the alias of the Lone Ranger and uses his title and his mask to fight for justice and maintain the law. He's Texas born, never removes his disguise and fights for peace in his troubled town with his Native American friend Tonto who is a spirit warrior with a personality a mile away from that of the Ranger but they still remain loyal companions on their journey to eliminate crime in their quiet town.

It started out as a thirties radio show before becoming a hit TV series in the fifties, and now it has been adapted by Walt Disney Pictures for the silver screen. 'The Lone Ranger' is an exciting contemporary version of this much-loved tale with high-energy action and much in the way of humour. It's a wonderful take on the famous partnership that is masked hero Tonto and his faithful 'kemosabe'. Oscar winning movie genius Gore Verbinski returned to Walt Disney to work on the movie with Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp in his wake having previously worked on the film company's epic film series 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. The screenwriters include the writers of masked crusader 'The Mask of Zorro' Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, with Justin Haythe ('The Clearing', 'Revolutionary Road'). It is set to hit cinemas across the UK on August 9th 2013.

Johnny Depp To Star In Transcendence

Johnny Depp Armie Hammer Helena Bonham Carter

Johnny Depp is set to star in Transcendence, the new movie from Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister, who worked on Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, The Huffington Post reports.

"I'm thrilled, and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Johnny," Pfister, sounding confident in the negotiations, said in a statement. "He is a creative and intelligent artist whom I feel will bring great depth to the character and the overall narrative." Depp's next cinematic outing will be in Lone Ranger, in which the star dons an eagle crown as Tonto, but little is known about the film he could be working on next. "I can't talk too much about it. It's a present-day science fiction film, a fairly big concept," he said. "It's bigger budget -- not as big as 'Batman,' but not independent." Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are producers on 'Transcendence'." Pfister, who won his Academy Award for his work on Inception, is trying something new with direction, after gaining recognition as a prominent cinematographer.

Lone Ranger, which stars Armie Hammer as the titular role, and, as she so often does, sees Helena Bonham Carter team up with Depp once again, is set for a U.S release on July 3rd, 2013. Depp is set to follow up four successful Pirates of The Caribbean films with the 5th (and surely final) film, which has been confirmed by the studio, although it's far too early for a release date yet. Think 2016, at a guess.

Nelly Claims To Know Nothing Of No Heroin!

Nelly Armie Hammer Willie Nelson

Rapper Nelly is making it crystal clear that he had no idea his bus was carrying heroin when it was searched by Sierra Blanca police in Texas this week. Authorities seized 10 pounds of weed, a loaded .45 caliber pistol and 36 baggies of heroin after a surprise drug bust on the tour bus.

According to TMZ.com, passenger Brian Keith Jones admitted the drugs and weapon were both his and was subsequently arrested on the scene. Nelly said in a statement, "It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning." He added, "Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board. Law enforcement officials did not press charges against anyone other than that individual." Strangely, Nelly still maintains that the drugs were in fact Molly, aka pure ecstasy, despite law enforcement sources confirming that it was most certainly heroin after field tests.

The rapper and his crew were the latest stars to be busted at the checkpoint in Texas, with Willie Nelson famously stopped in 2010 and found to be in possession of six ounces of marijuana. It didn't come as a huge surprise given the country star is a long-time advocate of the drug, though perhaps more surprising was actor Armie Hammer's arrest for weed, marijuana cookies and a brownie.

Busted In Sierra Blanca: Nelly Held By Police, Heroin Found In His Tour Bus

Nelly Willie Nelson Armie Hammer Fiona Apple

Rapper Nelly escaped the long arm of the law after a police raid of his tour bus allegedly found heroin, weed and a loaded gun on board, TMZ report.

According to Texas law enforcement sources, Nelly's bus was stopped at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca last night (October 11, 2012), where a police canine detected the presence of drugs. When the officers inspected the bus, they not only found a massive stash of weed, said to weigh around 10 lbs., but also came across a 36 small bags of heroin (totalling .64 ounces) and a loaded pistol.

Nelly and six other people were all detained after the search, but six of them – including the rapper – were allowed to go after one of the passenger, named Brian Keith Jones, admitted that the whole stash and the gun belonged to him. He was subsequently detained by the police is expected to still be in their custody. So far, Nelly’s PR team have not made any comment on the situation, despite being contacted a number of times since the news broke.

Drugs And Loaded Gun Seized: Nelly’s Tour Bus Raided In Sierra Blanca

Nelly Willie Nelson Armie Hammer Snoop Dogg Fiona Apple

Nelly’s tour bus was searched at a border patrol in Sierra Blanca, Texas. Heroin was uncovered, alongside a loaded firearm, reports MTV.

The rapper was detained on Wednesday night (October, 9 2012) but wasn’t arrested, after Brian Keith Jones – a man on the bus with him – admitted to being the proprietor of the 0.64 ounces of heroin, more than 10 pounds of marijuana and a loaded .45-caliber pistol. He was, of course, subsequently arrested after the dogs sniffed out his batch of illegal stuff. “It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning,” NME reported Nelly as saying. “Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board. Law enforcement officials did not press charges against anyone other than that individual.”

Sierra Blanca seems like a honey trap for celebs that insist on smuggling narcotics: Willie Nelson, Armie Hammer, Snoop Dogg and, most recently, Fiona Apple have all been arrested for drug possession in the Texas town. "Most of the people were very nice to me," Apple said of her arrest. "There are four of you out there, and I want you to know I heard everything you did, I wrote it all down with your names and everything you did and said stupidly thinking I couldn't hear and see you."

A Week In Movies Featuring: Skyfall, Adele, Taken 2, Armie Hammer, Johnny Depp, Arnold Schwarzenegger And More

James Bond fever turned into a global epidemic this week, as the franchise celebrated its 50th birthday with the release of Adele's stunningly retro theme for the upcoming Skyfall, Daniel Craig's third outing as 007. The song already sounds like a classic, and anticipation will only grow until the film's release in the UK in two weeks and in America next month. Meanwhile, the documentary Everything or Nothing hits cinemas this week to bring us up-to-date on everything Bond so far.

Liam NEeson - Taken 2

But of course the big worldwide release this week is Liam Neeson's return to action in Taken 2, where he once again takes on the Albanians who have kidnapped a member of his family. It's even more ridiculous than the 2008 original, but will no doubt be a huge hit.

New trailers this week gave us some movies to look forward to. Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp star in a new take on The Lone Ranger from Gore Verbinski, director of Depp's first Pirates trilogy. It looks like a big, explosive action Western with yet another offbeat turn from Depp. Although we have to wait until next summer to see it.

The Lone Ranger Trailer

John Reid is the Lone Ranger; a law-abiding man of justice from Texas who resolutely wears his mask and disguise at all times and vows to fight crime and keep the peace in his town. Battling alongside him is his trusted Native American companion Tonto, a painted spirit warrior and the complete opposite of Reid but, nonetheless, they make the perfect crime-fighting duo as they set out to conquer the theft and corruption that threaten the harmony of the people.

'The Lone Ranger' is the Walt Disney Pictures adaption of the legendary Western tales that started out on the radio in the 1930s before hitting TV screens in the 50s. It's a stunning modern take on the stories combining serious action with hilarity, with wonderful character development and the heart-warming partnership of Tonto and his 'kemosabe'. It was only right that Oscar winning big budget director Gore Verbinski returned to Walt Disney to work on the movie, having previously worked on Disney's popular film series 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. The Lone Ranger Trailer Online: Can Johnny Depp Transform Tonto?

Johnny Depp Helena Bonham Carter Armie Hammer Gore Verbinski

Johnny Depp has given us the first taste of his performance as Tonto as the first Lone Ranger trailer goes online. Flanked by his familiar onscreen companion, Helena Bonham Carter and with Armie Hammer in the title role, we only get a glimpse of Depp’s voice as Tonto; as he sits astride his horse, on top of a cliff, next to The Lone Ranger and says in a gruff voice “there comes a time… when good man must wear mask” and the camera pans out to Depp and Hammer’s faces; Depp doused in tribal face paint and Hammer’s face obscured by a black eye mask.

Set in America at a time of industrial revolution, The Lone Ranger tells the tale of a former Texas Ranger fighting injustice in the Wild West. The movie s directed by Gore Verbinski and movie fans were treated to an image of Tonto and The Lone Ranger and now, we have a teaser trailer to feast our eyes upon. The movie’s not released until August 2013, so there’s a long wait until we get to see the whole thing; with Depp in top-billing though, the hype will be sure to build between now and then.

What we do learn from this brief clip though is that we’re gonna get to see some classic steam-era train-robbery action. Johnny Depp will most likely being turning the stereotype of Tonto – which means ‘dumb’ in Spanish – on its head and it looks as though Tonto will be more than just a sidekick; more likely he’ll turn out to be far wiser than his name suggests.

First 'Lone Ranger' Trailer Released (Video)

Johnny Depp Armie Hammer

A new Lone Ranger trailer has been released by Disney ahead of the film's release in 2013. The celebrated western character the Lone Ranger has been revamped and rebooted plenty over the past 60 years or so, but this could be his highest profile yet as he's joined by that most eccentric of Tontos - Johnny Depp. Depp teams up with Armie Hammer, who plays the ranger, in a film that's already caused its fair share of controversy, not least in deciding to cast Depp as native American Tonto. Depp is one quarter Cherokee however. Another worry is that Depp will overshadow Hammer, something that his outrageous costume for the film would suggest has foundation.

This new trailer doesn't really put that issue to bed, but it does at least provide a bit more of the backdrop for where the two characters will be vying for attention. A voiceover talks about how horses used to be the fastest that man could travel, only for wide shots to then focus on a steam train, the implication being that then change in technology is set to change the world, and those who control that change and control the world. Deep stuff. The 90 second clip focuses on action shots, not showing the two main protagonists until they sidle into shot about a minute in, looking over a great valley together. You can see it for yourself below. The film comes out next summer.

Lone Ranger: Armie Hammer Sparks Trailer Alert!

Armie Hammer brought the Lone Ranger teaser trailer with him last night, as he made time in his busy schedule for an appearance on The Tonight Show, reports E! Online.

Looking dapper, sitting alongside Jay Leno in a bespoke grey suit, Hammer, who plays the titular peacekeeper alongside Johnny Depp, spoke of his time on set for the film: "I showed up on set and I said 'ok great we are gonna do the things with the scorpions right' and Gore [the director] was like 'I think we have to rework that.," he laughed, adding: "We were rehearsing with the dummy and the horse bit the dummy's nose off." More importantly, though, a teaser trailer for the new film accompanied his presence, and it didn't disappoint. We saw Western gunslingers, chugging steam trains and of course, the mercurial Depp looking suitably quirky in his Tonto attire. We've also been treated to a moody poster for the film recently, which sees the lone ranger's eyes in a rough depiction of the iconic black eye mask.

‘The Lone Ranger’ Crew Member Dies In Production

A crewmember on Disney’s The Lone Ranger died on the set Friday morning (September 21, 2012), the studio told TheWrap.

Reports suggest the diver reportedly began to drown in a water tank while preparing for an underwater shot for the movie. The identity of the deceased is still unconfirmed, but Contactmusic.com will be reporting any updates to the story as soon as they are released. An official statement from the studio reads as follows: "We regretfully confirm that a Lone Ranger crew member has passed away after being taken to a local hospital. Our hearts and thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues at this time, and our full support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this terrible event.” The man was in full cardiac arrest by the time responders reached the scene, reported TMZ. A helicopter ferried him to a nearby hospital, but EMTs were unable to restart his heart and he was pronounced dead there.

Disney halted the movie last summer over concerns about its budget, but problems of that ilk have been well and truly put into context following this tragic news. The Lone Ranger stars Armie Hammer as the leading man and Johnny Depp as his sidekick Tonto, and is set for a summer 2013 release.

Fiona Apple Arrested For Marijuana Possession On Mexico Border

Fiona Apple Snoop Dogg Willie Nelson Armie Hammer

We're looking forward to seeing what long-winded song title Fiona Apple comes up with when she gets around to writing a song about this one. That's right, the singer songwriter who once held the dubious honour of writing the world's longest album title, was reportedly arrested on the Mexico border after being found to have marijuana on her persons.

Apple certainly isn't the first music star to be stopped on the border and found to have the green stuff on her. Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg and Armie Hammer are three of the not-so surprising names to have found themselves in trouble with the law for possessing the banned substance. Apple was found to have hash on her as well as a small amount of weed and as such the 35 year-old is being held at Hudspeth County Jail.

It hopefully won't derail what's been a fairly promising comeback from Apple, who released her first album in seven years this year, giving it the typically long-winded title The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do. The album went to number three on the US Billboard Charts, although it hasn't got anywhere near sales of her phenomenally received debut album Tidal. Released in 1996, that sold some 2.7 million in the US.

Mirror Mirror Review

Good
Both lavishly produced and light-hearted in tone, this fractured fairy tale aspires to be The Princess Bride, and actually gets it right from time to time.

While it's too uneven and corny to be a classic, it's still a lot of fun.

After the King disappears, his daughter Snow White (Collins) is raised by her conniving step-mother (Roberts), who plots with her right-hand man (Lane) to steal the kingdom from Snow. Then handsome Prince Alcott (Hammer) arrives and shakes things up, immediately falling for Snow, which sends the queen into even crazier fits of jealousy. She sends Snow into the woods to be eaten by a mythical beast, but Snow instead befriends a gang of dwarf bandits (Povinelli, Klebba, Saraceno, Prentice, Gnoffo and Woodburn), who teach her how to fight back.

J. Edgar Review

Very Good
Exquisitely designed and directed, with finely tuned performances that shine even through some heavy make-up, this true story never quite succeeds in conveying its central relationship. Sure, repression is the point, but passion would have made the film heartbreaking rather than just sad.

John Edgar Hoover (DiCaprio) was only 29 when he became director of the Bureau of Investigation (later the FBI), and he ruled supreme until his death in 1972, holding eight US presidents in the palm of his hand with his notorious files of personal secrets. But he also had loyal friends, including his secretary Helen (Watts) and his right-hand man Clyde (Hammer). As a young man, his mother (Dench) instilled in him a hatred of liberalism and homosexuality, so his enemies included Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy (Donovan) and himself.
