Firefighters were called to Art Garfunkel's New York home on Thursday (19Feb15) when a blaze broke out in his apartment.

The singer/songwriter was not at the $15 million (£9.4 million) penthouse in Manhattan's Upper East Side when the drama happened at around 11.30am local time.

Emergency crews attended the location and spent two hours tackling the blaze, which is believed to have been caused by a spark in the building's insulation.

Efforts to bring the fire under control caused significant flood damage to the apartment, according to the New York Post.

A source tells the publication, "There was a lot of water."
