Ashley Tisdale has discovered she is related to Austin Butler

The 37-year-old actress is very close with her 'Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure' co-star Austin, 31, and finds it "insane" that they are 10th cousins once removed because they were always "like brother and sister."

Speaking on a new episode of Ancestry's 2 'Lies and A Leaf' YouTube series, she said: "Austin and I always say that we're like fraternal twins born very far apart because he's much younger and we've always had that connection. It's no wonder! We've always said we were brother and sister. That is insane!"

The 'High School Musical' star was moved almost to the point of tears by the revelation and was then seen receiving a text message from the 'Elvis' star, who was also in shock at the news.

She said: "I literally am gonna cry. He just texted me! He goes 'No f****** way!"

In 2021, Ashley - who is married to musician Christopher French and has a 20-month-old daughter Jupiter with him - reflected on her long friendship with Austin as part of a birthday post where she hailed him as her slightly younger twin.

She said: "I am beyond proud of you and everything you're accomplishing but most importantly proud of the person you are. You've been my closest friend through the years. You're the type of friend that came over when I was crying on the floor from a horrible breakup and not only lifted me off the ground but brought my favorite candy. There's no one like you Austin, you're my twin born ."
