You Can't Copyright A Monkey Selfie, So Don't Try

Atmosphere

In news altogether insignificant for the world’s population of monkeys, but bad for the British photographer attempting to claim ownership of a self-portrait taken by a macaque, The United States has decided that ‘monkey selfies’ can’t be copyrighted.

We’re assuming any picture taken by a monkey – a sunset behind a pier or a meadow in full blossom, for instance – can’t be copyrighted either. The news comes after a public draft of the Compendium of U.S. Copyright Office Practices, Third Edition - which was released Tuesday and says it will only register only works created by human beings.

Richard Dawkins On Down's Syndrome Babies, "Abort It And Try Again"

Atmosphere

Richard Dawkins, one of the world's foremost scientists, thinkers and philosophers, is embroiled in a Twitter row after claiming it would be "immoral" to carry on with a pregnancy if the mother knew her baby had Down's syndrome. The author of The Selfish Gene made the comment in response to another user who said she would be faced with "a real ethical dilemma" in the situation. Dawkins tweeted: "Abort it and try again. It would be immoral to bring it into the world if you have the choice."

Hey Who Wants To Stay In A Hotel Where It Costs $500 To Leave A Bad Review?

Atmosphere

For most hotels, the way to stop bad reviews is to increase the level of service, spruce the place up a bit and have a staff meeting on manners. But The Union Street Guest House, charging $500k for every negative thought written on the Internet is the chosen technique.

Confirmation: Felix Kjellberg AKA PewDiePie Really Is Living The Dream

Atmosphere

The YouTube sensation that is PewDiePie has attracted nearly 30 million subscribers to his channel on which he essentially plays video games and lets people watch him. It’s a simple concept, but one that reportedly nets the Swedish entrepreneur $4m per annum in advertising sales.

Felix Kjellberg’s story is straightforward: as a geek with a penchant for video games and showing off, he decided to film himself playing some popular titles. When his target audience – mostly young teenagers – cottoned on to his playful, often goofy online persona, the phenomenon started. Now The Wall Street Journal are publishing profiles on him.

The painting, completed in 1901 at the start of Picasso's Parisian Blue Period, was painted on a canvas which was already occupied by a gentleman in a bow tie. Atmosphere

Microsoft’s decision to unbundle the controversial Kinect camera from retail units of their new console, the Xbox One, was initially seen as a financial incentive for potential customers. But it would appear as though there are performance benefits too with a reported 10% increase in GPU speeds.

"The additional resources allow access to up to 10 per cent additional GPU performance," a spokesperson told Eurogamer. "We're committed to giving developers new tools and flexibility to make their Xbox One games even better by giving them the option to use the GPU reserve in whatever way is best for them and their games."
