We Are Augustines - Juarez Video

Brooklyn's We Are Augustines released their anthemic new single 'Juarez' this week on Oxcart Records. According to lead singer Billy McCarthy, the song was written after he injured his left hand causing him to struggle with playing with only two fingers that were free from his bandage. 'I played the initial chords with my cut hand high on pills and wrote this song in about an hour'.

The music video is a clear depiction of the emotionally charged track which is about a Mexican town on the Southern border of the US that is suffering deprivation due to violence, drug wars and unemployment. The lyrics are catchy and Southern sounding with McCarthy's rough, rock vocals and strong accent; it is evident that the band put a lot of effort into making the song as meaningful as possible despite McCarthy's injury making it difficult to write. The potency of the deep South texture is truly remarkable.

The single follows a successful sold out UK and European tour and is the main track on their critically acclaimed album 'Rise Ye Sunken Ships' which is out now. The single includes the newly released, magnificent B-side cover of Los Lobos' 'Saint Behind The Glass'.
