Singer Avril Lavigne has said she now feels 80% better after been diagnosed with Lyme disease shortly after her 30th birthday in October. The singer revealed she’s been battling the disease to People magazine, after keeping quiet about her health problems for months.

Avril LavigneAvril was diagnosed with Lyme disease late last year.

"I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move. I thought I was dying," Lavigne told the magazine. "There were definitely times I couldn't shower for a full week because I could barely stand. It felt like having all your life sucked out of you.”

“I had no idea a bug bite could do this," she continued. "I was bedridden for five months.” Lavigne had traveled to Las Vegas in October to celebrate her 30th birthday, but had no idea why she wasn’t feeling herself on the trip.

"I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed," the singer said. "My friends asked, 'What's wrong?' I didn't know.” Speculation over Avril’s health caused the twitter hashtags "#PrayForAvril" and “#GetWellSoonAvril" to trend on Twitter in December, but the singer did not reveal the extent of her illness.

"They were asking about me since I was MIA, so I mentioned to one fan directly that I wasn't feeling good," Avril told People. "The get-well messages and videos they sent touched me so deeply."
