The often-controversial rapper Azealia Banks has been accused of homophobia and racism after she unleashed a Twitter rant at Zayn Malik.

The American star was initially unhappy at Malik because she thought the futuristic video for his new single ‘Like I Would’ copied a number of ideas from her own video to her track ‘Yung Rapunxel’. Tweeting a series of screengrabs comparing the two videos, she wrote “I'm not mad about this though. Zayn is a cutie pie.”

Former One Directioner Malik didn’t initially address her, but he wrote “no lies… I see you reaching but I don't care,” adding “my @s too good for you”.

At this point, Banks began her rant which contained amid some pretty NSFW stuff that you can see for yourself on her official Twitter account, but the edited lowlights include the following:

“@zaynmalik dude, I make better music than you. Simmer down with that fake white boy rebellion and that wannabe Bieber swag. All those white boys in 1D disrespected you and made you their PET. You were only a part of 1D to draw brown attention. You are and ALWAYS will be a TOKEN to the UK.”

Later, her tirade expanded to accuse UK rap in general of being inferior to the American product: “The UK really can't rap though. UK RAP is just a disgrace to rap culture in general. Rap/Hip-Hop culture is AMERICAN in its PUREST form.”

In light of Wednesday morning’s rant, East London radio station Rinse FM has decided to remove her from the bill of their Born & Bred Festival because of their commitment to inclusivity and equality.

Banks’s activity on Twitter has landed her in hot water in the past, with former Republican politician Sarah Palin threatening to sue her after a series of tweets in March that she later apologised for.

She also recently accused Beyonce of sending the wrong message to young women because of the heartbreak narrative of her recent album Lemonade. “This heartbroken black female narrative you keep trying to push is the Antithesis of what feminism is.”
