Rap star Azealia Banks briefly called a halt to one of her concerts in order to break up a fight in the crowd during her recent gig at Irving Plaza in New York on Monday evening.

A video posted on YouTube by an attendee shows Banks interrupting her DJ and back-up performers during her song ‘Miss Amor’ and calling out the offending concert-goers, insisting that she wouldn’t resume playing until they had stopped brawling.

The oft-controversial rapper acted as peacemaker on this occasion, and was heard to say “We're not gonna fight in the crowd. That's not what we're gonna do. You're gonna stop right now or you're gonna get kicked out.”

Sounding rather like a schoolteacher rebuking some naughty children, she went on: “It doesn't matter who hit who, you gotta stop f*****g touching each other right now. I'm looking at all five of y'all right now, I'll throw all of you out right now, stop hitting. I'll count to 10 and I'll keep this show going.”

23 year old New Yorker Banks, who scored a huge hit with ‘212’ in mid-2012 and spent over two years embroiled with various record companies trying to release her debut album Broke With Expensive Taste, which eventually dropped in November last year to positive write-ups.

Banks has managed to gain a reputation for controversy over the years, becoming involved in social media disputes with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lily Allen, Rita Ora and Diplo to name but a few.
