Baywatch star Michael Newman has been secretly battling Parkinson's Disease for the past five years.
Newman, who was the only professional lifeguard to star in the hit U.S. TV show, first thought his shaking hand - a symptom of the degenerative disorder - was a sign of "getting old", but he sought medical advice in the mid-2000s and was diagnosed with the condition.
The 55 year old admits it took him a "long time" to come to terms with the news, but he hopes advances in stem-cell therapy research will create new treatments.
He tells Los Angeles' Kpcc-FM, "It took me a long time to realise that I was going to have to reorder my life. It was going to change... just realising you're not going to be able to do a lot of the things with your kids that you thought you were going to be able to do."
