Al Jardine is desperately trying to keep the Beach Boys 50th anniversary reunion alive by launching a fan petition on his Facebook.com page.

The beloved group will wrap up its summer tour in Britain at the end of the month (Sep12) and then bandmates Mike Love and Bruce Johnston are hitting the road for their alternative Beach Boys dates without Jardine, Brian Wilson and David Marks.

Wilson made it clear he was not happy about the anniversary tour coming to an end recently, telling CNN, "I'm disappointed and can't understand why he (Love) doesn't want to tour with Al, David and me. We are out here having so much fun. After all, we are the real Beach Boys."

And now Jardine has asked fans to help him persuade Love to reconsider.

Posting a petition online, the musician writes, "In order to preserve the validity of The Beach Boys as a whole, and not as a money saving, stripped down version that only contains one original member, and one member that joined in 1965, we ask you to reinstate the three other members to the touring group for your final years performing. It's the right thing to do, and it's what the fans want!"

Love and Johnston have been touring as the Beach Boys since the late 1990s.
