Clothing chain Abercrombie & Fitch moved into the building in central London to open an Abercrombie Kids store, but authorities in the British capital have ruled they broke local planning laws by carrying out renovations to the Grade II-listed site.

They have now been hit with fines and costs of around $25,600 (£16,000) after an inspection found "unauthorised and inappropriate redecoration".

A representative for Westminster Council says, "Heritage is the number one factor that makes Westminster what it is today, so the council will seek to protect it wherever we can."

The Savile Row building housed the Beatles' record label and the band famously played its last public performance on the rooftop in 1969.
