Sir Paul McCartney Tyga Kylie Jenner Beck

Despite being about as VIP as you can get in the world of rock stardom, Sir Paul McCartney was turned away from Tyga’s Grammy Awards afterparty in Los Angeles last night along with Beck and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

As reported by TMZ, the 73 year old Beatles legend was twice refused entry to the Argyle in Hollywood, where Kylie Jenner’s boyfriend Tyga was hosting a lavish afterparty following the conclusion of the Grammys. In a video clip, he can be seen with his wife Nancy Shevell and his two fellow musicians talking in vain to bouncers who didn’t seem to recognise him.

Kanye West Backtracks Over Beck Comments At Grammys

Kanye West Beyonce Knowles Beck Taylor Swift

After creating another publicity firestorm at the Grammys over the weekend, Kanye West has sought to clarify what he meant and taken back some of the things he said about Beck.

When Beck’s album Morning Phase surprisingly won Album of the Year at the ceremony, beating out multi-platinum records by the likes of Beyonce, Pharrell, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, Kanye took to the stage seeming, and afterward denounced both Beck and the Grammys to E! News for not respecting artistry. In that interview, he had said “Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyonce, and at this point, we tired of it,” prompting masses of reaction on social media in the aftermath.

Shirley Manson Calls Kanye "Small And Spoilt" After Beck Incident

Kanye West Shirley Manson Beck

Garbage's Shirley Manson has accused Kanye West of being "small and petty and spoilt" in an open letter to the rapper after he criticized Beck for winning album of the year at the Grammys. Kanye interrupted Beck's acceptance speech and backstage interview to claim the rocker's win was "disrespectful to inspiration."

Shirley MansonShirley Manson said Kanye disrespected his own "remarkable talents"

The Scottish singer-songwriter said: "Dear Kanye. It is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry. You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK.

Grant Nicholas - Yorktown Heights
10) Grant Nicholas - Yorktown Heights
Feeder's Grant Nicholas went down the familiar lead-singer-does-a-solo-album route this year, and the results weren't too bad in the end. Yorktown Heights is a more sombre and acoustic take on the recognisable sounds of his regular band but there is still plenty of bite and energy on tracks like 'Joan of Arc' and 'Time Stood Still'. On Yorktown Heights, Nicholas proved he could pen a tune with more emotional depth than anything about a CD player player player player player.

CJ Wildheart - Mable
9) CJ Wildheart - Mable
Not exactly a surprise that a member of The Wildhearts did a solo album this year, but CJs first solo work in seven years is an absolute mother of a sonic gut punch. The power pop blitzkrieg comes thick and fast with songs like 'Better Late Than Never', 'Devil' and the album highlight 'Vitriol'. CJ took the opportunity of his second solo outing to prove that The Wildhearts was never a one man show.

Beck - Morning Phase
8) Beck - Morning Phase
2014 saw the welcome return of the musical equivalent of Willy Wonka, Beck. Morning Phase revisited the acoustic sounds of his seminal 2003 album Sea Change, with an added dash of optimism. The four years Beck took out between this and his last studio album obviously did him some good as Morning Phase features some of his best songs, such as 'Blue Moon', 'Waking Light' and the gorgeous 'Heart Is A Drum'.

The Coachella Festival has closed its doors for another year, leaving a bunch of sweating Californian hipsters and A-list celebrities to pack up and dream of 2015. Many had described the 2014 line-up as one of the most interesting and diverse shows yet - but did it manage to live up to the hype?

Arcade FireArcade Fire Headlined This Year's Coachella Festival

"So 15 years later, and we are back for the first time, on the same stage, with the same band," he told the crowd only a few minutes before he was cut off. The 43 year-old performer then decided to entertain the crowd with dancing whilst he waited to see whether the silence had been the result of an accident or an equipment fault, according to the Daily Bulletin.

Coachella Festival is nearly here, bringing with it one hell of a weekend chock full of great food, exciting entertainment and, most importantly, amazing music.

Arguably California's most eagerly anticipated event of the year, Coachella settles at the Empire Polo Club in Indio once again for the fifteenth year running between April 11th and 13th on the first weekend and April 18th and 20th on the second. It's not unheard of that a music festival was so good they had to hold it twice, but as of 2012 it has become a no-brainer for Coachella. In a nutshell, it is basically a big playground for grown-ups - though of course it is a family friendly event - featuring activities such as the 3 Legged Race, the Beauty Bar, the art studios, dodgeball and the almighty Pie Eating Contest, all while you're munching on a variety of cuisine from around the state and rocking out to some of the best bands you will ever hear.

Song Reader: Beck Plays Album Of Sheet Music At London's Barbican

Beck Jarvis Cocker Franz Ferdinand John Cooper Clarke The Staves Beth Orton Thurston Moore

It is perhaps Beck's strangest album. Song Reader - the record made up entirely of sheet music - was played in full at London's Barbican Theatre on Sunday (July 7, 2013), with a huge cast of musicians including Jarvis Cocker, Franz Ferdinand and Beth Orton. This potentially had disaster written all over it, though reviews suggest the album was perfectly  realised in the historic setting.

Song Reader contains twenty new songs, all publishing on song sheets. The tracks are scored for keys, guitar and voice though Beck's intention was for fans to elaborate and change the songs to their liking. As noted by the Financial Times' Ludovic Hunter-Tilney in his review, songwriter Ed Harcourt was given that job on the piano. He was accompanied by flugelhorns, ukuleles, drums and guitars.  The veteran punk poet John Cooper Clarke read prose between songs while female vocal trio The Staves helped out on vocals.

David Smyth of the Evening Standard suggested the concert will have encouraged fans to have a go themselves, writing, "The songs Beck performed himself sounded the most predictable, with acoustic guitar to the fore, though a jazzy, catchy Do We, We Do would have stood out regardless of the singer. For those buying the book in the lobby, it was a case of do try this at home."

Beck Summons An Army To Help Him Turn 'Song Reader' Into Music

Beck Franz Ferdinand Jarvis Cocker The Mighty Boosh John Cooper Clarke Beth Orton Charlotte Gainsbourg Guillemots Noel Fielding Julian Barratt

Depending on the way you look at it, Beck's decision to release his last album in the form of sheet music was either incredibly innovative or unforgivably pretentious. Released in December 2012, Song Reader comprised of twenty songs in sheet music form as well as over one hundred pages of art. The idea behind the unusual decision was to let the fan become the composer, with many interpretations quickly surfacing online showing the versatility of the pieces.

This was all very well if you're a Beck fan with some degree of musical talent but for those hungering for the white rap of Odelay, the pop experimentation of Midnite Vultures or the sweet melancholy of Sea Change were left feeling a little bemused and perhaps even cheated.
