Pop star Belinda Carlisle only has one regret about her 30-year battle with drug and alcohol abuse - she's sorry she wasn't a better mother.
The Go-Go's frontwoman indulged in her vices early on in her career and continued to drink and abuse cocaine when she became a mum to little James Duke, her son from her marriage to Morgan Mason, in 1992.
In her new autobiography, Lips Unsealed: A Memoir, Carlisle confesses her addiction had spiralled so far out of control, she even snorted cocaine in the bathroom of her son's school.
She says, "That's how sick I was."
Carlisle finally overcame her demons in 2005 and focused her attention on bringing up her son, then 13, and getting her career back on track.
She adds, "Ultimately, it was a choice between life and death. But I don't have any regrets about my addiction and I have an amazing life. The one regret is that I wasn't as present as I should have been as a mother. I'd like to think that I've made up for that in the last five years."
