His casting as the new Batman may have ruffled a few feathers, but Ben Affleck has just earned the seal of approval from one very important man: the original caped crusader, Adam West.
There are still two years to go before we see Ben Affleck take on the mantel of Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the argument about the Oscar winner's suitability for the role rages on. Today one very worthy commentator gave his thoughts on the subject- Adam West, who played Batman from 1966 to 1968 in a staggering 120 episodes of the eponymous television series as well as the 1966 film.
Affleck has the Adam West stamp of approval
Speaking at San Diego Comic Con, West had only compliments for his successor. "My feeling is that Ben Affleck will be really good simply because he's a great talent, and I'd be very interested in seeing him in the role."
This is high praise indeed coming from the original Batman himself! West also spoke about making the television series, and how much fun he had. "The best part was just the fun and the laughs when you read the material, and you could really feel it coming to life, scene by scene."
Nowadays West is more known for his destinctive voice-over work
West is known to more recent audiences as the voice of Mayor West in Seth MacFarlane's 'Family Guy'. MacFarlane was determined to avoid typecasting West, who is known for his distinctive voice, and as such there are no references to Batman made by or to his character in the show.
In other Batman-related news, audiences at Comic-Con were treated to their first look at the Batsuit Affleck will be sporting, as well as an amusing snap of Superman himself (British actor Henry Cavill) dressed as a Jedi, wielding a lightsabre.
Finally, there was one last piece for advice for Affleck from West, on the prospect of donning the iconic cape and lycra: "Just make the costume works for you, Ben."
