"My feeling is that Ben Affleck will be really good simply because he's a great talent, and I'd be very interested in seeing him in the role," he said at a Comic-Con panel.

West also spoke of his own experience of playing the caped crusader.

"The best part was just the fun and the laughs when you read the material, and you could really feel it coming to life, scene by scene" he said.

"The costume was uncomfortable. The cowl was very tight and I couldn't see down and around, but you deal with those things. They paid me well," he added.

"You make the costume work for you. Ben Affleck, if you're (reading), make the costume work for you!" he warned.

Set for May 2016, Zack Synder's Batman: Dawn of Justice is the intended sequel to 2013's Man of Steel. Henry Cavill returns as Superman, with Gal Gadot playing Wonder Woman and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons and Holly Hunter will also appear.

Earlier at Comic-Con, a close up shot of Affleck as Batman stirred debate as to whether the Oscar winner was miscast in the role.

One Twitter user said: "An Iceberg that looks like an old depressed Batman.....or Ben Affleck as it's now commonly known #BatmanvSuperman."
