Ben Affleck has shaved off his lucky beard.

The 'Argo' filmmaker celebrated his Best Picture Oscars win at the Academy Awards on Sunday evening (24.02.13) by shaving off his facial hair just hours after accepting his award.

According to TMZ, Ben shaved his beard - rumoured to be his good luck charm for awards season - in the hallway of Craig's restaurant in West Hollywood because ''his family was tired of the beard.''

A source also told E! News: ''He did it to mark the end of a chapter. It had that ceremonial quality to it.''

He previously admitted his wife Jennifer Garner and their children - daughters Violet, seven, Seraphina, four and 11-month-old son Samuel - were unimpressed with the bushy beard he grew for his role in the political thriller.

The actor-turned-director said: ''My wife is a very polite and kind woman. She and the kids did not like the beard. It had an exposed wire vibe. It was hated in my home.''

Ben, 40, walked the red carpet arm-in-arm with Jennifer before his big win and sung her praises during his acceptance speech.

The actor and his co-producers George Clooney and Grant Heslov received a standing ovation as they took to the stage to collect the night's biggest award, which was presented by the US First Lady Michelle Obama via live satellite from the White House in Washington D.C..
