The festival kicked off with the world premiere of David Fincher's Gone Girl. The film centres on a man who, after the disappearance of his wife, discovers he has become the focus of media and police attention with many suspecting he may not be innocent.
Gillian Flynn wrote the novel Gone Girl on which the film is based.
Gone Girl is based on the 2012 novel by American author Gillian Flynn and she was in attendance to see her novel brought to life on the silver screen. Gone Girl stars Ben Affleck (Runner Runner), Rosamund Pike (A Long Way Down), Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Tyler Perry (The Single Moms Club) and Carrie Coon (The Leftovers).
Rosamund Pike is 7 months pregnant.
All five actors managed to make the event and Pike in particular, who is seven months pregnant, looked radiant in a black floor length gown. Yet Pike isn't the only Gone Girl cast member to be expecting! According to CBS, Perry's girlfriend Gelila Bekele is expecting a child. This will be the couple's first child together.
Tyler Perry also announced last week he will be a father soon.
Fortunately for the makers of Gone Girl, the film has been received well by critics in early reviews. Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) claimed "David Fincher's shockingly good film version of Gone Girl is the date-night movie of the decade for couples who dream of destroying one another."
Carrie Coon stars in Gone Girl.
However, there have been some negative reviews with some critics resenting Fincher's dark tone. Manohla Dargis (New York Times) wrote "Dread descends like winter shadows, darkening the movie's tone and visuals until it's snuffed out all the light, air and nuance."
In addition to the cast and crew, other well known faces who attended the premiere included Reese Witherspoon, Lisa Banes, David Clennon, Sela Ward, and Patrick Fugit. Witherspoon looked stunning in a scarlet dress and her hair loose around her shoulders.
Neil Patrick Harris also attended the event.
Gone Girl is released in the UK on 2nd October and in the US on 3rd October.
