'Gone Girl' is shaping up to be one of the best movies of 2014.
We've written, and read, plenty on David Fincher's latest movie Gone Girl in recent weeks but reviews have been scarce - until now. It appears that all the talk of this movie as a potential Oscar winner was not simply hyperbole. This movie has a very real chance of winning major awards.
Ben Affleck as Nick Dunne in 'Gone Girl'
Written by Gillian Flynn, the author of the book on which it is based, Gone Girl tells the story of Nick Dunne, who becomes the focus of an intense media circus surrounding his wife's disappearance. The question is: does Nick has something to hide?
"Director David Fincher and stars Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck are at the top of their game in this mesmerizing adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel," said Justin Chang of Variety.
"Above all, it's is a delicious exercise in audience-baiting: what begins as a he-said, she-said story of mounting, murderous suspense, lurches at its fulcrum into the kind of hot mess Brian De Palma might have cooked up 20 years ago in his attic," said Robbie Collin of the Telegraph.

"There are moments in this film that will make your jaw drop in shock and horror," said Simon Reynolds of Digital Spy.
""Gone Girl" will earn plenty of loud shouts of applause, awed sounds of surprise, and shocked laughter, but what makes it worthy of them is all the hushed, uneasy conversations it's guaranteed to inspire in the long, unsettled silence to come after," said James Rocchi The Wrap.
"Gone Girl simultaneously evolves as a mordant satire of the mediating of domestic violence as mass entertainment," said Graham Fuller of Screen International.

Fans of Flynn's bestselling book had been concerned at reports that the famous ending from Gone Girl was changed for the movie adaptation, though the reviews confirm that it's faithful retelling.
"Despite published reports that major plot changes were being made, particularly in the third act, this simply isn't true; it's an extremely faithful adaptation of what is ultimately a withering critique of the dynamics of marriage," wrote Todd McCarthy.
