A Week In Movies: Mitty premieres in New York, Gravity lands in London, Radcliffe talks Ginsberg, Frankenstein teases

Ben Stiller's remake of the 1947 classic premiered at the New York Film Festival this week, with Stiller and costars Kristin Wiig and Adam Scott in attendance. The film, about a mild-mannered office worker with a vivid daydreaming life, won the festival's Fellowship Award. Also on the red carpet in New York were Sandra Bullock, George Clooney and Alfonso Cuaron, presenting the US premiere of their space-orbit thriller Gravity, which went on to set US box office records over the weekend. Afterwards, Bullock and Cuaron jetted across the Atlantic for the film's UK premiere at the London Film Festival this week. On Wednesday, the 57th London Film Festival had already kicked off with Tom Hanks' new thriller Captain Phillips, a true story about Somali pirates directed by Paul Greengrass (United 93). The film opens this week in the US and next week in the UK. Read our Captain Phillips movie review here.

Other films screening at the London Film Festival include Ralph Fiennes as Charles Dickens in The Invisible Woman, James Franco's directing debut As I Lay Dying, Kathryn Hahn in the adult rom-com Afternoon Delight and Alex Gibney's cycling documentary The Armstrong Lie. Also screening in London is the Beat Generation drama Kill Your Darlings, starring Daniel Radcliffe as Allen Ginsberg. He's been out talking about his potential screenwriting career and how he used music to get into the mindset of his character in the film, which is set in the late 1940s. The most intriguing trailer this week was for I, Frankenstein, starring Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy and Dexter's Yvonne Strahovski. This all-new version looks like a massive fantasy action epic with big effects and lots of dark shadows and long black coats. How it connects to the classic novel is anyone's guess. And finally, a couple of months before awards season gets properly underway, Quentin Tarantino has jumped the gun to offer his top 10 movies of the year ... so far. Some of his choices are expected (Gravity, Blue Jasmine and Frances Ha), some are out of the blue (The Conjuring, The Lone Ranger and Afternoon Delight). And it's worth remembering that several major contenders haven't premiered yet, including David O Russell's American Hustle and Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street.
