Benedict Cumberbatch has landed a role in upcoming crime thriller Blood Mountain in which he'll reportedly play a private military contractor whose Special Forces team is ambushed and killed during a raid, forcing him to personally escort "one of the world's most wanted terrorists" over hostile land in order to bring him to justice, according to Deadline.

Blood Mountain, the new project from Mongol director Sergei Bodrov, will begin shooting in Morocco in April after it is presented to international buyers by Altitude Film Sales at Berlin's European Film Market next month.

For fans of the Sherlock actor, this means that the chances of him also having been cast in JJ Abrams' Star Wars reboot, which is due to film around the same time, are slim. The 37 year-old's filming schedules would clash if he were to take on a major role in both, as had been rumoured.

Furthermore, the BBC have all but confirmed at fourth season of the hit television detective drama after the recently-aired third season attracted record viewing figures, pulling in an average of 11.82 million viewers last month.

Though the English actor is far more famous in showbiz now than he was when he first began starring in the series, Cumberbatch has admitted that he wants to continue being Sherlock Holmes for as long as possible. "I'm fine with it. I'm going to keep going with it," Cumberbatch said explaining that "it's a schedule-providing thing...I love it. I find it very invigorating."
