Benedict Cumberbatch was excused from signing autographs for his many fans after his debut performance as Hamlet at the Barbican Theatre in London on Wednesday night (05.08.15).
Benedict Cumberbatch was unable to sign autographs after making his debut as Hamlet in a preview performance on Wednesday night (05.08.15).
The 39-year-old actor took to the stage as the Shakespearean character for the first time at the Barbican Theatre in London but due to the overwhelming amount fans who besieged the venue a decision was made to place a sign outside the Stage Door stating signings would not be taking place.
The message read: ''Mr. Cumberbatch will not be signing autographs before or after the performance of 'Hamlet'.
''Due to the overwhelming number of requests, Stage Door are unable to accept gifts or items for signing.
''We apologise for any disappointment this may cause and appreciate your understanding.''
Benedict has a huge fan base due to his role as Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series 'Sherlock' and many of his female followers refer to themselves as 'Cumberbitches'.
The Oscar-nominated actor has been vying to play the Prince of Denmark in Shakespeare's tragedy for a long time and always thought when he reached his late 30s he would be the right age to portray the famous character.
He previously said: ''I don't know if there is such a thing as a right age to play the part, but 36 or 37 seems appropriate to me, so I need to do it before long.''
'Hamlet' runs until October 31 at the Barbican Theatre.
