Benedict Cumberbatch seems to have had a change of heart since he told fans that he would not be greeting them before and after performances of ‘Hamlet’, as he was seen chatting to his army of loyal Cumberbitches after last night’s show.

Signs placed outside the Barbican Centre which had stated categorically that the 39 year old English actor would not be signing autographs were reportedly taken down, and on Thursday night Cumberbatch spent several minutes signing programmes, talking to his fans and posing for selfies.

For the last week, hordes of fans have been queuing overnight to get their hands on one of a limited number of release tickets priced at £10 that are sold every day. Some are reported to have come from as far as Russia, Peru and New Zealand to see the ‘Sherlock’ actor on stage in the Shakespearean tragedy.

Cumberbatch has already made headlines by imploring theatre goers to refrain from filming his performances on their phones, telling them there was “nothing less supportive” than seeing the red light of camera when on stage delivering lines.

However, a week into his two month run at the Barbican, it seems that he’s relaxed his hard-line stance a little and agreed to mix with his fans a bit. Having changed out of his stage attire, he was seen wearing jeans and a loose-fitting shirt while he mingled with his adoring (and mostly female) fanbase.

Cumberbatch was nominated for an Oscar earlier this year for his role in The Imitation Game. His only big-screen performance in 2015 will be the American crime movie Black Mass, released in September, and he’ll be reprising his role as Sherlock Holmes in a one-off ‘Victorian special’ on the BBC over the Christmas period.
