If you weren't one of the lucky few who snapped up tickets for Hamlet starring Benedict Cumberbatch in London’s Barbican theatre this August then don’t dismay. Thanks to the National Theatre Live, Cumberbatch’s turn as the Danish Prince will be seen worldwide in cinemas on October 15th.

Directed by Lyndsey Turner the limited London run begins with previews on August 5th and the official opening night is set for August 25th. When tickets for the performances went on sale last year they sold out in less than a day, despite no other cast members being announced.

Previously the National Theatre Live has helped fans around the world enjoy numerous stage productions from the comfort of their local cinemas, including when Cumberbatch appeared in Danny Boyle’s Frankenstein back in 2011.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, the actor said of the screenings, “It’s just a great way of making the play accessible.” Producer Sonia Friedman also added that the National Theatre Live initiative gives the “opportunity to thousands of people who are not able to see our limited run at the Barbican”

The producer also said she hopes the October 15th broadcast will be “an electrifying evening’ for UK audiences watching the show ‘in real time”. Other European countries will also be able to enjoy Hamlet live as it happens, however US audiences will see a time delayed performance.

Tickets for the Hamlet NT Live broadcast will go on sale on March 16, with the full list of screening venues becoming available soon on the National Theatre's website.
