At 90 years-old you may think that Betty White might not be able to stand a good old fashioned comedy roast, but first, the long-time comic didn't get all she received in life without enduring many bumps, bruises and slurs on the way, and secondly, such was the stature of the woman that many found it hard to truly uncover any grizzly skeletons in her closet.
Usa Today reports that Barbara Walters, Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb, Bethenny Frankel, Regis Philbin, Matt Lauer, Joy Behar, Victor Garber, Liza Minnelli, Valerie Harper and Katie Couric were among the stars who turned up in Manhattan to roast the veteran. Victor Garber admitted "She's maybe the sweetest woman alive. She does it all. There's nothing hidden" - we don't think he understands the concept of a roast.
'Today's' Gifford attempted to inflict some smut upon White, claiming that she picked her nose, however even this didn't stick, with the TV personality admitting "She does not! I totally just made that up." Minelli meanwhile commented "She gives all of us everything. She's very funny. I think some of it would surprise people." It was left to Walters to get a few sly digs in, joking "the great love of Betty's life: Gen. Custer." Ah, yes, we get it because she's old. Apart from that though? Nothing but charm and good will on this most gentle of roasts.
