Beyonce's daughter Blue Ivy has the starring role in her latest music video for her new tune 'Blue'.

The 'Grown Woman' hitmaker surprised fans by releasing her fifth studio album, a ''visual'' self-titled record, on iTunes today (13.12.13) and the 23-month-old little one, her daughter with rapper husband Jay Z, has been a big inspiration in one of the songs.

The music video shows Beyonce holding her daughter - who turns two on January 7 - while strolling barefoot along a beach path.

In the tune, the star sings: ''It could last forever; come on baby won't you hold on to me, hold on to me.''

The video, which is said to have been shot in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, also shows local children playing a dancing in the streets and on the beach.

Other images from the release show the mother-of-one and her daughter embrace and the superstar tickles her baby's legs.

In a video on her Facebook page, the star explained the reason behind the surprise release of her album, which is being labelled as 'Part 1' and features 14 songs and 17 accompanying music videos.

She said: ''I didn't want to release my music the way I've done it. I am bored with that.

''I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There's so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans.

''I felt like I didn't want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it's ready and from me to my fans.''

The self-titled album is available on iTunes worldwide.
