Beyonce took over the world, pardon, the album charts, with her surprise release from last week.
Beyonce, aka Queen of the Music Industry and overall successful person has topped the Billboard chart with her surprise self-titled album. Not only that, within six days of the release of Beyonce, the album has sold over 1 million copies worldwide, setting a new iTunes record.
Mrs Carter dropped a bomb last week that just keeps on exploding.
The album contains 14 songs and 17 videos, which Beyonce, her collaborators and a whole team of “creatives” have been working on for the past year. Alongside touring. Alongside preparing for the Super Bowl. Also alongside working on endorsements for brands like H&M and Pepsi.
We may like Beyonce a tad too much.
While it may have been an exhausting year for the singer, it was obviously worth it. In its first week, with 617,000 copies sold in the United States by the week ending Dec. 15, it has not only debuted on top of the Billboard 200, but is also quickly becoming one of the biggest sellers of 2013. Apparently, coming in late in the game isn’t always a bad thing.
But then, how can you not?
Currently, the album is only sold as the full set of tracks and videos and retails for $15.99, but the songs will be available for individual purchase before the holiday season.
Meanwhile, we’re wondering, could Beyonce end up topping the year’s biggest selling album? With 968,000 copies sold stateside in its first week, Beyonce hasn’t topped its debut. Considering, however, that Bey’s album reached its figures with no promotion and without even an announcement, we wonder if the buzz will be enough to reach one million (or, dare we say, even compete for the record) before the year is out?
Exhibit A: Beyonce looking into the distance, possibly plotting world domination.
