Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro are on track to score the second number one album of their career with new record Ellipsis. Ellipsis is the band’s seventh studio album and was released on Friday (July 8) and it's so far taken a strong lead in this week's chart.

According to the Official Chart Company’s midweek chart update Ellipsis is currently outselling the rest of this week’s top five albums combined. The band’s closest competition is last week’s number two, Adele’s 25, which is currently a non-mover in the midweeks.

At three is Rick Astley’s 50 which has moved up five places, at four is Coldplay’s A Head Full Of Dreams and at five is ELO’s All Over The World. Biffy scored their first number one album in 2013 with their last release Opposites. They had previously hit the top five twice, with Puzzle in 2007 and Only Revolutions in 2009.

Last week the band expressed an unexpected interest in working with chart rival Adele on a rock record. Frontman Simon Neil told The Daily Star: “I’d love to make a mad f***ing rock record with Adele, something edgy.”

“So if she’s up for it we would make a f***ing glitch rock record with Adele, we could help her sell less records. I had half a hope that her latest album would be heavier. It’s still great, I can’t say a bad word about Adele because the world loves her…But I think Adele will really surprise people next time.”
