Bill Murray, the American actor who lost out on the Oscar for best actor for Lost In Translation all those years ago, paid tribute to his late friend and colleague Harold Ramis while presenting the Academy Award for best cinematography last night.

After the nominees were announced, Murray - presenting with Amy Adams - looked on with a wry smile and added, "We forgot one. Harold Ramis, for Caddyshack, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day."

The audience erupted into applause before the award went to the stunning 3-D epic Gravity.

In a statement to Time Magazine after Ramis' death last week, Murray said: "Harold Ramis and I did The National Lampoon Show off Broadway, Meatballs, Stripes, Caddyshack, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day.

"He earned his keep on this planet. God bless him."

Dan Aykroyd, who was preparing to reunite with Ramis on Ghostbusters 3, tweeted, "Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my brilliant, gifted, funny friend, co-writer/performer and teacher Harold Ramis."

Ramis was one of several movie stars to be remembered in the Oscars in memoriam tribute at the Dolby Theatre, including The Sopranos star James Gandolfini, Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman and the Fast and The Furious actor Paul Walker, as well as Peter O'Toole, Cory Monteith and the movie critic Roger Ebert.

Ghostbusters 3 is seemingly still on the cards, though Bill Murray has distanced himself from the project on numerous occasions.
