The actor lost his life on Saturday (February 25th 2017) after complications resulting from the heart surgery that had recently been performed. Said complications caused him to suffer a stroke, according to a report from TMZ, and he sadly didn't make it.

'It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery', the family said in a statement. 'A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill's passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family's wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.'

The role that propelled him to stardom was a brief appearance in 'The Terminator' in 1984, and he would go on to star alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in 'Commando' and 'True Lies'. Since then, he has had roles in 'Aliens', 'Predator 2', 'Apollo 13', 'Twister', 'Titanic' and 'A Simple Plan', with the likes of 'Edge of Tomorrow' and 'Nightcrawler' being some of his most recent blockbusters. He has also had television success with shows like 'Big Love' which earned him three Golden Globe nominations, 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' and, most recently, 'Training Day'.

The final film he shot was James Ponsoldt's sci-fi thriller 'The Circle' which also stars Emma Watson and Tom Hanks. It is set to be released on April 28th 2017. It was also thought that he would reprise his role as Master Sergeant Farell in a planned 'Edge of Tomorrow' sequel. Director Doug Liman revealed that he had expressed concern over Bill's forthcoming operation, but the actor insisted that ''Sgt Farrell' will be ready to report for duty'.
