The CMAs Honor Nominee Favorite Taylor Swift With Special Pinnacle Award

Taylor Swift Garth Brooks Tim Mcgraw Blake Shelton

Taylor Swift and the CMAs – it’s a match made in heaven and one that continues to reap accolades for the young singer. Ahead of tonight’s show, Swift is up for six whole awards. And while she is a favorite to win big (yet again) Taylor also has one in the bag already. The Country Music Association has decided to also honor the singer with the Pinnacle Award for her success, E! News reports. The world may change, but it's reassuring to know that the Country Music Awards still belong to Swift. There can be little argument about that.

The Pinnacle Award is a special distinction, given to artists, who have achieved international success and recognition, as well as record sales of country music. Since country is usually quite a region-specific genre, the award is a very rare honor, given to only the most successful of performers. To give you a bit of perspective, the only other Pinnacle Award laureate is Garth Brooks, after the award was created in 2005. So it's all very exciting for the young singer, who has achieved unparalleled success with her most recent album, RED, and the subsequent sold out tour.

Besides the distinction, Taylor is also nominated for Entertainer, Female Vocalist, Album, Song, Music Video, Musician and Musical Event of the Year, with the song, video and event nominations being for her work on the Tim Mcgraw song Highway Don’t Care. Blake Shelton is the other favorite, with five nominees. The awards will be broadcast tonight at 6pm PST on ABC.

Christina Aguilera & Cee Lo Green Are Back With A Vengeance In 'The Voice' Season Opener

Christina Aguilera Cee-Lo Green Blake Shelton Adam Levine

The quest to find America's next singing sensation is on, and we've got two familiar faces returning to the fifth season of The Voice to boot, as Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green made their triumphant returns to the hit series. And now, with the show earning it's very first Emmy win, for 'Best Reality Competition,' the pressure was on for the season opener to deliver, and you better believe that it did.

Christina Aguilera
Christina was back, and arguably came away from the opening night with the best performer.

Season five's opening episode wasn't just a blast because we got to see Christina, Cee Lo, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton back together again, although admittedly that was pretty great, but more because the first round of acts were some of the best singers the show has ever had! Maybe it had something to do with the return of the Holy Alliance, or maybe it was to do with the night's 'Rock 'n' Roll' theme, who knows maybe the just put something in the water, but last night (23 Sept.) the blind auditions were out of this world.

Taylor Swift Kacey Musgraves Miranda Lambert Blake Shelton Carrie Underwood Jason Aldean

The CMA nominations have been announced, y’all, and this year everyone’s favorite country girl Taylor Swift appears to have some competition, in the face of debutante Kacey Musgraves. Both Swift and Musgraves received six nods for the country awards, including categories, which have been almost reserved for Taylor for the past couple of years – Album of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year.

Taylor Swift, MTV VMAKacey Musgraves, 2013 Billboard Music Awards
Taylor might have some tough competition in the face of newcommer Kacey Musgraves.

The other favorite to win some of those… pointy… statuettes this year is Miranda Lambert, whose work has been nominated in both solo and group categories (with Pistol Annies) and whose special brand of sass has been making waves this year. Lambert’s husband, Blake Shelton is also up for five categories, including Entertainer of the Year and Album of the Year. No surprises there, but with Swift, Musgraves and Carrie Underwood all competing in the Album category, he’ll have a tough time beating the odds. The same goes for the Entertainer category, where Shelton is once again up against that powerhouse of a performer Swift, as well as Jason Aldean, George Strait and Luke Bryant – all huge names in country at the moment.

Inspired Winners And Inspirational Mentors In "The Voice" Season Finale (Spoilers)

Blake Shelton Usher

The Voice finally has its winner, but that’s not all that happened during the tense season finale. The last show featured performances by stars like Pitbull, Bruno Mars and Christina Aguilera, who will return to the judging panel next season, as well as a surprise performance by Cher – a rare event these days. But, of course, it wasn’t the main event. What everyone wants to know is who won. So, if you want to find out as well, keep reading ahead. Just in case that wasn’t clear enough, massive spoiler warning ahead. The big winner was, somewhat unsurprisingly, a member of team Blake Shelton. It was Danielle Bradbury, who beat out all other contestants for the top spot. Team Usher, represented by Michelle Chamuel came in second in the running, while the Swon Brothers, Zack and Colton, again mentored by Shelton, took third.

Bradbery, who is only 16, couldn’t contain her excitement after the show, commenting backstage:“I’m so thankful. I’m sorry, I’m speechless.”

Shelton, who coached two of the big-winning acts, had plenty of reasons to celebrate last night, as not only did his team represent (that’s what kids say these days, right?) but he also got to celebrate his 37th birthday on air. And he even got serenaded with Happy Birthday by the audience before the show went live, People reports. That bit wasn’t broadcast, presumably because the burden of copyright still hangs over the Happy Birthday song.

As The Voice Enters It's Final Stage, Is There A Clear Winner In Sight?

Usher Blake Shelton Adam Levine Shakira

The Voice has nearly finished with it's successful fourth season, with the final three now battling it out for the coveted crown being given out by NBC, but decided on by the American public. Monday (June 17) night's show featured more than just performances from the contestants as the season looks to make it's cinematic end, but regardless of the treats on offer the real attention was of course of the final three.

Show judge Usher has already dubbed Michelle Chamuel 'the winner' of this season of the hit singing competition, but Usher's word does not guarantee success and for Chamuel, the race is still on for the prize. Fellow judge Blake Shelton is one person who doesn't rate Chamuel and he is still backing Zach and Colton Swon to take the crown and after their triumphant rendition of 'Danny's Song' before the judge made the duo into a three-piece for a version of Brad Paisley's 'Celebrity.' Even if you don't like country it was hard not to admit that the shaw was something special.

Blake's other entry into the final three, Danielle Bradbery, proved her worth to the panel too, with Adam Levine and Shakira both singling her out as the most impressive performer of the night. "I think Danielle's the winner of this thing," Levine told her after the rendition of Maybe it was Pam Tillis' 'Memphis.' They weren't the only ones who thought highly of Bradbery's performances either and by the end of the night her coach Shelton told the hopeful, "I'm one of the millions of people out there that you have wrapped around your finger. I just thank God that you came to The Voice to debut yourself."

The Voice: Who Went Home And Who Made It To The Final?

Usher Adam Levine Blake Shelton Shakira

It’s semifinals week on The Voice, oh goodie! Anticipation was abundant before last night’s show – who would leave, which judges’ teams would get to compete in the finale, is it going to be all-women or all-country? Once again, the iTunes chart provided some clue as to the rankings. The show kicked off with a performance by Fall Out Boy (who still exist as a band, apparently.) They performed their My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark and were joined by Michelle Chamuel, whose role in the whole performance seemed to be mostly nominal, since her voice was barely audible throughout.

Then, after an emotionally charged performance by season 3 finalist Nicholas David, at last it came time to announce the lucky members if the inner circle for this season – starting, predictably, with Michelle herself. This means that both team Usher and team Country will be represented at the final.

The second act to continue to finals was Blake's Danielle Bradbery, followed, at the very last minute by The Swon Brothers. This of course means that Team Shakira’s Sasha Allen and Team Adam’s Amber Carrington were sent home this week. So the results matched the iTunes charts pretty well and the finale is shaping up to be a tense one. Did the semifinal fit your predictions?

She explained that the Voice judge had "tried hard to get here," but unfortunately couldn't bend his schedule in such a way that he could get to the awards show from Los Angeles in time. Taking on the responsibilities for herself and her husband on the night, Lambert ended her speech by gleefully announcing, "Honey, I'm drinkin' for two tonight!"

Lambert had plenty of reason to drink the night away too, picking up two gongs on the night herself. She won the Performance of the Year award for her song 'Over You,' thanking Shelton, a co-writer of the song, in her speech, before climbing to the stage again to pick up the female equivalent of the award her husband had won: Video of the Year for 'Mama's Broken Heart,' a song she had performed live earlier in the awards gala.

Adam Levine Tweets Americans The Definition Of 'Humorless'

Adam Levine NBC Shakira Usher Blake Shelton Maroon 5

Adam Levine made a half-apology to Americans yesterday for muttering "I hate this country" during the closing credits of The Voice. We say half-apology because the Maroon 5 took to Twitter to post dictionary definitions of the words "humourless," "lighthearted," "joke" and "misunderstand." Hmm.

In fairness to Levine, his remarks really were pretty throw-away and he was obviously upset that two of his three acts had been eliminated from the NBC singing contest - one of them, Judith Hill, had been the favorite for weeks. The pop singer also released a statement through NBC which classifies that he really doesn't hate America. "I obviously love my country very much and my comments last night were made purely out of frustration," Levine said. "Being a part of The Voice, I am passionately invested in my team and want to see my artists succeed."

Levine added that the elimination of two of his acts was "confusing and downright emotion," and that his remarks were based on "personal dissatisfaction with the results," adding, "I am very connected to my artists and know they have long careers ahead, regardless of their outcome on the show."

The Voice: Why On Earth Didn't You Vote For Judith Hill Or Sarah Simmons?

Adam Levine NBC Blake Shelton Usher Shakira

It was another shock result on NBC's The Voice this week, with two of the clear frontrunners getting eliminated despite strong performances. Unfortunately for Adam Levine, it was both his acts Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons who got the boot, despite being tipped to reach the final, reports E! Online.

Hill, a former backing singer for Michael Jackson, was considered the one to beat since her opening audition, while Simmons had wowed the American public with her soulful tone and consistent performances. The shocking results leaves Team Adam with just one act, Amber Carrington, while Team Blake retains Danielle Bradbery, Holly Tucker and The Swon Bothers. Shakira has just one act left, Sasha Allen, while Usher has one too, Michelle Chamuel. It's looking increasingly like that Blake Shelton will field at least one singer for the grand finale, probably Holly. The Voice audience have really taken to the country singers on the latest season.

Adam Levine may have hurt his one remaining act's chances after a microphone caught him grumbling, "I hate this country!" upon learning that American hadn't voted for Judith or Sarah. The Maroon 5 man was probably joking, though there's some pretty touchy television viewers out there.

The Voice Finale Approaches And Blake Shelton Is Rooting For Country

Blake Shelton Shakira

Things are getting heated up over on The Voice as judges Shakira and Blake Shelton butt heads over who they want to send to the finale. The playoffs continued last Tuesday and, under Shelton’s coaching, it would be no surprise if the next Voice of America ended up being a country performer. The biggest hopeful for this season seems to be 16-year-old country songstress Danielle Bradbury, after she was named as one of the contestants to beat on this episode.

With her in the running, it might be that country is making a comeback to the talent competition. Shelton certainly knows it and he commented during last night’s performances: 'I've been saying since day one I want to bring a country music singer to the finale,' said Blake, who thinks this year he can do just that.

He does have some tough competition though, in the face of Shakira’s team, and one singer in particular: Sasha Alan. Despite Alan being a favorite for the top spot, her mentor was definitely experiencing a case of nerves before the performances began: 'I'm so nervous, you have no idea. I'm going to end up with no nails, I'm going to be biting them the whole time.'

Blake Shelton To Officiate Kelly Clarkson's Wedding

Kelly Clarkson Blake Shelton

How cool’s this going to be!? Not very, probably, unless you’re Kelly Clarkson: so what’s happening is, Blake Shelton’s going to be there at her wedding. But not just that, right, he’s also going to be singing at her wedding! But that’s not even all – I know! – it turns out that he’s going to be conducting the whole darn shebang!

Speaking to Entertainment Online, Clarkson commented that Shelton did have history of wedding couples and had no hesitance in calling him Reverend Shelton. It’s perhaps just rewards for the country star, after he revealed that he had a hand in the pop singer and her fiancée Brandon Blackstock together. "I told Brandon, 'Man, you need to grow up and figure out that you need to marry this girl,' " Shelton told Hollyscoop last December. "'I am going on the record saying, I will do the music at the wedding or whatever you want to do, I'll be that guy. I will play for four hours if I have to, cause you need to get you head out of your ... and ask that girl to marry you.' "

Apparently Clarkson has already picked out her wedding dress for the occasion and also the moth of the nuptials, although the date keeps getting moved around due to the pair’s busy schedule. We’re not really too surprised by that, but as long as they get down the aisle at some point everything should be alright eh.

Blake Shelton To Officiate And Perform At Kelly Clarkson’s Wedding

Kelly Clarkson Blake Shelton

Kelly Clarkson has revealed that Blake Shelton will be officiating her wedding to Brandon Blackstock, as well as performing too. She told everyone the news at the ACM Awards on Sunday, April 7.

It’s all a close-knit affair, you see; Blackstock is Shelton’s manager, and was instrumental in getting his boss to pop the question. "I told Brandon, man, you need to grow up and figure out that you need to marry this girl," he told the US Magaznie. "I am going on the record saying, I will do the music at the wedding or whatever you want to do, I'll be that guy. I will play for four hours if I have to, cause you need to get your head out of your ass and ask that girl to marry you." Clarkson and Blackstock became engaged late last year in mid-December, with Clarkson taking to twitter to share the good news. “I'M ENGAGED!!!!! I wanted y'all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever :)” she posted.

Blake Shelton's 'Based On A True Story' Just About Passes The Grade

Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton has been one busy guy these past couple of days, with the return of The Voice coming earlier this week and with a new album in tow, it's imaginable that Shelton is looking forward to summer for more than just the weather, but for a chance to finally relax. Is all this nonstop action worth it for Shelton though? Well it's too early to cast a verdict on this seasons The Voice, but his album has been scrutinised by some already and the overall critique is that Based On A True Story just about passes the grade.

Blake Shelton
Blake Shelton fails to excite on A True Story, but doesn't disappoint

The album offers next to no real surprises and is just your average country release, with Metracritic averaging the scores for the album at a satisfactory, but far from overwhelming 6.2. Probably the most positive review comes from Billboard, who agree on the openness of the album, specifically the open lyrics from Shelton. Based On A True Story is just that, it is a collection of personal songs from the country star that doesn't go too deep, as Blake maintains a pich of humour on many of the tracks. As he recently revealed in USA Today, the album may be a personal journey, but it is a 'pretty light one' at that.

Blake Shelton Rumors Laughed Off: Country Music Couple Still Going Strong

Blake Shelton Miranda Lambert

Miranda Lambert has laughed off the Blake Shelton rumors that have suggested the couple have been hit by a cheating scandal. In true Blake / Shelton style, they have laughed off the rumors in a comic way, tweeting each other so that all of their followers can see that they’re not bothered by the gossip.

Joking about the recent tabloid scandal that suggests Shelton has had an affair with a 23 year old artist, Blake sent a tweet to Miranda, saying “Hey ‪@mirandalambert... I just read in a tabloid that our marriage is falling apart!!! FOCK!!!” to which Miranda replied “Oh no! Can't wait to read if we make it or not.” Blake quoted her tweet for his own followers to see and added “Ba! Ha! Ha! You see y'all! I'm making her funnier!”

This isn’t the first time that Blake and Miranda have been forced to deny rumors being spread about them in the press, either. Last November, word got out that the couple were expecting a baby, when they actually weren’t and they were forced to take to Twitter to defend themselves then, as well, with Miranda joking “Wow! I just read the headline! 'We are having a baby' yay! Blake Shelton, we're getting a new puppy?” If they’re willing to joke about something as serious as the breakdown of their marriage, on a social media site, can we safely assume that there’s no substance to those Blake Shelton rumors?

'The Chief' Eric Church Leads ACM Awards 2013 Nominees With 7 Nods, But Taylor Swift Expected To Sweep

Taylor Swift Eric Church Miranda Lambert Hunter Hayes Blake Shelton Jason Aldean

The ACM Awards shortlist has been announced, one of the biggest awards shows in the American country music scene. Fully-named The Academy of Country Music Awards, is looks like 2013 could be the year of Eric Church, who seems to be set for reverence indeed after being named as a candidate in seven categories.

Known as the Chief, Church nevertheless isn’t up for the top category of the event – which will be held on April 7 in Las Vegas. Entertainer of the year will be contested by many of the established names on the country circuit, including Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton and Taylor Swift. We’re not quite sure how much a part of the ‘scene’ Swift can really feel these days to be honest, but never mind, she’s going for her third straight win in the category.

Going back to whose up for the most gongs though, it would appear that Hunter Hayes is just one behind ‘the Chief’, with six nominations, whilst Lambert and Swift are on five each. We wouldn’t bet against Swift winning all five of her categories: entertainer of the year, top female vocalist, video of the year, album of the year (artist) and album of the year (producer). For Hayes, he was just thrilled with the nominations. “It’s amazing. That puts it in perspective,” he said, according to the New York Daily News. “I’m kind of feeling like I’m part of the family now, especially now, with this. That’s such an honor, such a huge compliment. This is serious. This is for real. This says that my music’s been accepted by this community and it’s unbelievable — and that’s one of the best feelings in the world.”

Man Behind Manti Te'o Death Hoax Suspected Of Spinning Lies On 'The Voice'

Blake Shelton Adam Levine Shakira Usher

The man who is alleged to have been the mastermind behind Manti Te’o’s imaginary girlfriend reportedly auditioned to be on The Voice. According to US Weekly, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo spun an elaborate and tragic story, about his cousins dying, which producers now suspect may have been a lie, in light of his apparent involvement in the ‘dead girlfriend’ story.

Ronaiah Tuiasosopo allegedly told the show’s producers that he had started a Christian band, together with his cousins, but that they died in a “massive car crash” on the way to a youth conference in Nevada. According to Ronaiah, a truck crashed into their vehicle and sent the family members sprawling across the freeway. Miraculously, he claims, they were all fine, despite doctors fearing that one of them could be brain-dead. According to the inside, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo had taken the same background check and psych evaluation that all contestants go through and nothing out f the ordinary had cropped up. In light of the Manti Te’o death hoax, though, people are starting to think that he could have been making this up as well.

Luckily for the producers, his journey on the show ended there. He tried to impress the judges – Shakira, Adam Levine, Usher and Blake Shelton with his version of Matisyahu’s ‘One Day’ but they were unimpressed. “No one turned their chair around,” the insider confirmed.

Voice Winner Cassadee Pope Receives Full Endorsement From Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton Cassadee Pope Usher

Following her victory in The Voice, Cassadee Pope probably doesn't need any encouragement to believe in herself, but if she does, then Blake Shelton is her go to guy. The team leader and star mentor has issued a glowing reference for the 23-year-old, People reports.

"That's what makes an artist," Shelton praised her after the results were announced Tuesday night. "We are never satisfied. But I hope she's really happy that she won. I would love to do the pop/rock thing, but I know that I gained some amazing country fans and I know how hard it is to get into that world," the Florida native said. "I'd love to add a country music element to it a bit. I used to cover country music when I was a kid and it's stylistically part of my voice somehow.

As a 'Voice' winner, Pope earns a record contract with Universal Republic in her victory, as well as a multitude of fans to springboard her career from. "She's got a lot of options," Shelton added. "She's adored by rock fans, pop fans, country fans. She connects with a lyric the way few people can. The door is wide open." Season 4 of The Voice premieres March 25, 2013, with Usher and Shakira joining Shelton and Adam Levine as team leaders.

The Voice Finale Sees Blake Shelton Protege Cassadee Pope Win

It’s been drawing solid ratings but The Voice has largely slipped under the radar news-wise this year; nevertheless, the show drew to a close on NBC last night (December 18, 2012) with Blake Shelton’s protégé Cassadee Pope taking the prize.

Pope won the show over Scottish-native Terry McDermott and the bearded wonder Nicholas David, reports CBS, with a two hour marathon finale deciding who would walk off as the winner. Pope was stunned to win, dissolving into tears and getting out a hasty list of thank yous: "I'm feeling amazing, thank you for everyone who voted for me and all the fans and Blake, the producers, wardrobe, Carson, the band, and Christina, everybody” she gushed.

Pope got to perform with one of her idols in Avril Lavigne, and the Canadian was one of several stars who made a turn at the show’s prestigious finale. Rihanna, Bruno Mars, The Killers, Smokey Robinson and Peter Frampton were among the others who made an appearance during the two hours. Though Pope is the winner of this series, she won’t have long to relish her crown, with the fourth season of the show beginning as soon as March 25, 2013; it’ll be all change on the voice coach panel too, with Usher and Shakira replacing Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo Green.

Christina Aguilera's New Album 'Lotus': Well, It's Better Than 'Bionic'!

Christina Aguilera Cee-Lo Green Blake Shelton

Christina Aguilera has really taken her time with albums over the last ten years so it's a nice surprise that her seventh effort 'Lotus' comes only two years after her mediocre record 'Bionic' - which is just as well because there's only so many times you can listen to a record without a single stand out hit to note.

'Lotus' could prove to be different, however, with generally good reviews all round so far (at least compared with 'Bionic'). It was released last week on November 9th 2012 with 13 tracks though the 5-time Grammy winner has already released a deluxe version with four further tracks: 'Light Up the Sky', 'Empty Words', 'Shut Up' and a Martin Garrix remix of first single 'Your Body'; a track which has charted worldwide - it will never be a number one hit, but it is at least one of the most energised songs she has released in recent years.

The album, which was recorded at her home studio, includes collaborations with Cee Lo Green and country singer Blake Shelton (former co-judges on the US version of reality show 'The Voice') as well as input from several new producers such as Mike Del Rio, Jamie Hartman, Aeon Manahan, Chris Braide, Supa Dups and Jason Gilbert.

Christina Aguilera Braids Cause A Stir - Could It Be The Next New Trend?

Christina Aguilera Jimmy Fallon Christian Louboutin Blake Shelton

In weeks to come, will young girls be going to the hairdressers and asking for a Christina Aguilera Braid? Well, that remains to be seen, but Christina certainly seems to have caused a bit of a stir with her latest hairdo. She was showing off her new pink dip-dyed look when she appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s chat show on the weekend and that looked pretty neat. On Monday’s episode of the TV news show Extra, she took it one step further and added some elaborate plaits to one side of her head.

With the US election just a day away, Christina was showing her patriotic side, as well, sporting a pair of blue denim jeans with white stars. In fact, she looked every bit the All-American rocker, with a cropped leather jacket and safety-pinned t-shirt to finish off the look. Oh and let’s not forget the snazzy Christian Louboutin heels she had on, too – they were pretty eye-catching. Christina’s style has never exactly been subtle but she’d pulled out all the stops on Monday night to get herself noticed.

After the show, Christina enjoyed a meal with her fellow judge on The Voice, Blake Shelton and her boyfriend Matthew Rutler and frankly, she looked a million dollars in comparison to those two scruffy urchin, if The Daily Mail's pictures are anything to go by.

Blake Shelton Is The Man Of The Hour At CMA Awards

Blake Shelton Miranda Lambert Willie Nelson Little Big Town Eric Church Toby Keith Taylor Swift

Blake Shelton went home after last nights (Nov 1) Country Music Awards with an impressive three trophies to add to his mantle, taking Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist and Song of the Year.

Shelton shared the honour of Best Song with his wife Miranda Lambert for their ballad ‘Over You’, with Lambert breaking down in tears on stage over their success. And as for Shelton’s Best Male Vocalist Award, it marked the third time in a row that the singer has received the coveted award.

As well as Shelton and Lambert, other winners on the night included Country legend Willie Nelson who was presented with a lifetime achievement award at the ceremony held in Nashville, Tennessee. Alabama quartet Little Big Town found double success as they collected the award for Vocal Group of the Year and Single of the Year for their song ‘Pontoon’. Eric Church took home Album of the Year for the smash hit Chief, whilst Toby Keith beat off competition to win Music Video of the Year for the novelty track, ‘Red Solo Cup’.

The Voice Reaches Eighth Round Of Blind Auditions

Cee-Lo Green Blake Shelton Lady GaGa

The Voice reached its eighth round of blind auditions - truly it feels like things are moving fast this year. Is that down to the sheer quality of the contestants and the multiple vast talking points they're giving us? We're not so sure, certainly we'd say the last couple of rounds have seen some wannabe stars perhaps harshly overlooked as spots on all four of the voice coaches teams begin to fill up.

There were nevertheless more who managed to make it to the next stage, and none more notable than Chevonne, whose back story included the fact that she's currently a backing singer for Lady GaGa and claimed that she was tired in being in her employer's shadow. You're far from the only one Chev. She added a heart-tugging touch to the story by claiming she'd struggled with an eating disorder, and soon impressed coach Cee-Lo Green with a powerful rendition of the Pretenders' Brass In Pocket.

Another notable among the handful who made it through, was 46 year-old Rudy Parris. A country veteran, he'd previously played with Hank Williams III but gave up on his career to raise his daughter. Now fully-raised, Parris was keen to get back on track and it's no surprise that he ended up with country man Blake Shelton. Among those bottoming out was the unfortunate Rod Michael; a cocky 31 year-old who claimed to be in a famous boy band from Europe, he was quickly put in his place after failing to receive a single vote.

'The Voice' Recap: 17 Year-Old Brandon Mahone Is Pick Of The Bunch

Christina Aguilera Blake Shelton Adam Levine Cee-Lo Green

It's getting tighter and tighter as we get to the last "blind" rounds of The Voice in the USA. With a lot of the spots now taken, there were some good performers finding it a struggle on the latest edition of the show, although in spite of that there was still good news for a couple of standouts during the course of the NBC show.

Among the most impressive was 17 year-old Brandon Mahone, as well as leading female contenders Michelle Brooks-Thompson and Terisa Griffin. Whilst these first timers impressed, their stories were eclipsed by 22 year-old Dez Duron; Duron had dropped out of college to audition in the season last year but didn't manage to turn a single coach's chair. It was a different story this time for Duron though, the delighted performer seeing Blake Shelton, Cee-Lo Green and Christina Aguilera battling for his attention. Ultimately he decided to join Team Christina.

As for the 17 year-old Mahone, it was Maroon 5's Adam Levine who proved most persuasive, telling the starlet after he'd belted out The Temptations' I Wish It Would Rain that "you seem to have studied what it is to be a performer from that era to the point where you felt like one of them ... it felt like you were just the next in line." They were words Mahone couldn't help but listen to and he'll be a threat as the weeks progress.

The Voice Swaps Christina Aguilera For Shakira

Shakira Christina Aguilera Usher Cee-Lo Green Maroon 5 Adam Levine Blake Shelton

The Voice is already securing it’s mentoring line-up for the forthcoming spring season in 2013, bringing in Columbian superstar Shakira in a straight swap for Christina Aguilera.

The show, which demolished The X-Factor USA in its season premiere, has also brought in Usher for Cee Lo Green, according to Entertainment Weekly. The new additions are part of NBC’s plan to develop an “on-going tent of talent” for the show, though Aguilera is likely to return after promoting her new album. Executive producer Mark Burnett said of the new line-up, “Having award-winning artists as coaches means they need to be able to tour…Whether in the red chair or on tour, our coaches have their chairs for life. This is exactly why, after three seasons, we needed to allow them to rotate out so they can get on the road amongst their fans. Meanwhile, we’re incredibly excited to have singular artists like Usher and Shakira joining the fold.” It’s probably a wise move by show bosses, who will be all too aware of the sinking ratings of The X Factor and American Idol, both of which have failed to come up with original concepts in recent years and relied too heavily on all-star judging names.

Country singer Blake Shelton and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine will continue on the spring season of The Voice.

Major Shake Up Revealed With Christina Aguilera Leaving 'The Voice'

Christina Aguilera Cee-Lo Green Shakira Usher Adam Levine Blake Shelton

We're only one week into the third season NBC's The Voice, but the network is already announcing changes and they involve the departure of Christina Aguilera, as well as fellow original judge Cee-Lo Green. This season will be the last that's seen of the pair, as there is a new Aguilera album, Lotus to promote and tour, whilst Green is taking time off to work on new music and a scripted comedy about his life.

In their place? None other than Colombian singing sensation Shakira and general R'n'B superstar Usher. Not bad, as replacements go. "We are thrilled to welcome Usher and Shakira to The Voice, " Robert Greenblatt, the chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement reported by The Clicker. "The addition of these popular iconic artists continues the tradition established by Christina, Cee Lo, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. Doing two back-to-back cycles of this show requires a tremendous amount of time, and we are happy to accommodate the commitments made by Christina and Cee Lo."

Those disappointed at the news need not fear, though. Both have indicated that they will be returning to the show once they've finished with their other projects. "By pursuing my first passion of music during the break, I am also able to come back and offer even more to my team on 'The Voice' in the future," Aguilera said in a statement, whilst Green commented "Thank you, NBC, for supporting my decision to take this season four hiatus! I will return for season five and will be watching season four."
