Country music superstar Blake Shelton is bracing himself for a few “awkward” jokes and jibes about his recent divorce from Miranda Lambert at next month’s Country Music Awards ceremony.

The 39 year old was interviewed on NBC’s ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ on Tuesday (October 27th), and revealed that he’s prepared for a few laughs at his expense, after he and his ex-wife Lambert, 31, announced their split earlier this summer. The ceremony is taking place on November 4th at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, and will be hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley.

“This year is going to be awkward at the CMAs, speaking of jokes,” said Shelton. “[Country music] is such a family. Everybody there is friends, you know? There's gotta be a joke about me and Miranda. Brad Paisley is not doing his job if he doesn't look down there and go, 'Haha!' I mean, he's gotta do it.”

Meyers then asked him if making light of his divorce is helping him cope, and Shelton played down any emotional damage the split might have caused him, saying he isn’t bothered if people make jokes about it.

“You have to address the elephant in the room,” Shelton replied. “We've had the conversations, like, 'Okay, dude, I will go sit there and let you kick me in the face a few times’. I know it's coming, you know.”

Shelton has been keeping busy since the split in July, holding down a judge’s spot on season nine of ‘The Voice’. While the divorce initially hit him hard, with one tabloid going so far as to claim that his drinking had caused him to hit ‘rock bottom’ (which is now being sued by Shelton), he recently said that he’s doing much better now.

“I'm in a good place,” he recently said on CMT’s ‘Hot 20 Countdown’. “I wasn't but I am now. It's amazing how quickly life can turn around for you. I've had some pretty cool things in recent times that have happened and I'm loving it.”
