Blake Shelton is suing a tabloid magazine after it recently published a cover story alleging that the country star had entered rehab, and that heavy drinking on his part had contributed to the demise of his marriage to Miranda Lambert earlier this year.

Shelton, 39, filed a defamation lawsuit to the tune of more than $1 million in damages against the publishers of In Touch Weekly magazine, Bauer Publishing Co., in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday (October 19th) according to Rolling Stone magazine.

His lawyers claim that the mag had repeatedly published false information about Shelton and his divorce from Lambert, culminating in the story in question, which was published in late September with the headline “Rehab For Blake: He Finally Hits Rock Bottom”. Previously, In Touch Weekly had alleged that Shelton had also cheated on Lambert in the run-up to their divorce in July this year.

“To be clear: Mr. Shelton has not hit rock bottom,” the lawsuit states in no uncertain terms. “Blake Shelton has had enough,” it continues, illustrating the singer’s busy schedule as a judge on ‘The Voice’ and his plans for an upcoming greatest hits record. “Mr. Shelton is not in rehab and has no plans to go to rehab.”

The lawsuit specifically accuses In Touch Weekly of not attempting to contact any of Shelton’s representatives in order to verify the details of what they were publishing, and states that their client’s attempts to get them to retract their story had received no response.

In addition the financial reparations listed above, Shelton will also be asking for an injunction to prevent the magazine from repeating the details in any future stories.

Shelton is currently a judge on the ninth season of NBC’s ‘The Voice’, and was recently announced as a performer at the Country Music Awards which are being held next month. Earlier in October, he specifically ridiculed the suggestion that he was in rehab, saying “I have to pick up a magazine every now and then to see what my alter ego, I guess, is doing.”
