Blondie were so thrilled to be part of new movie Cbgb they offered up a new recording of their hit tune Sunday Girl for the soundtrack.

The new film about the iconic New York punk mecca features 65 tracks in total from acts like Talking Heads, Iggy Pop and the Velvet Underground, but music supervisor Brad Rosenberger was particularly thrilled when Debbie Harry and her bandmates agreed to help out.

He says, "We've been talking to them for a while because they're important to the film and I was talking to their manager and told him what we were looking for. And he said, 'The band actually just went in and did this (re-recording) - would you be interested in it?' We listened to it and I thought it worked great. It's amazing (that) 40 years later, you would never know that was a new recording."

Unfortunately, not everyone felt the same way about offering up tunes for the soundtrack - the existing members of The Ramones refused to get involved.

Rosenberg adds, "We showed the band or representation the film, and for whatever reason, they couldn't seem to go for it... There was no animosity. I personally thought it was a lost opportunity."

Instead, Rosenberg had to select a Joey Ramone solo track for the film.
