The rock star and humanitarian will be honoured at the November 14th ceremony in L.A.
The mag’s prestigious list has always attempted to celebrate women from diverse walks of life and industries, from fashionistas to business leaders and social justice activists, but it’s the first time that a man has been selected.
“I asked did she think I deserved it. She wasn’t sure,” Bono told the publication when he learned the news from his wife, Ali Hewson, on Tuesday (November 1st).

This is why Bono isn't a world leader...
Bono has decided that the best way to cripple ISIS and counter terrorism is by making them laugh. In his mind, violence doesn't work because it's all they understand, so why not introduce them to a concept they've never heard of before? Which is comedy. Apparently.
Bono knows how he would defeat ISIS...
Yeah, we don't think the U2 frontman is going to be running for president any time soon, even if we overlook that's he's not American. It's like showing up to debate class, realising you haven't prepared at all and just rattling off the first idea you can think of. Regardless of how stupid it is. The only problem is, Bono is 'actually serious'.

Eagles of Death Metal have made an emotional return to Paris, appearing as surprise guests during U2’s gig at the AccorHotels Arena on Monday evening. Bringing the band to the stage U2 frontman Bono said: 'They were robbed of their stage three weeks ago and we would like to offer them ours tonight.

U2's two rescheduled gigs in Paris, on December 6th and 7th, will be going ahead as a show of defiance.
U2 and a number of other bands, including Foo Fighters, were forced to cancel gigs in the beleaguered city in the immediate aftermath of the attacks on November 13th. The Irish group’s gigs, the first of which was scheduled for the 14th, was understandably called off and rearranged for December 6th and 7th at the AccorHotels Arena.

The (RED) campaign was set up by Bono to raise money to tackle AIDS.
Almost exactly a year to the day since he seriously injured his arm in a bike accident in New York, U2 singer Bono will be auctioning a bicycle ride as part of a charity campaign for his organisation (RED), which raises money to tackle AIDS.
The campaign launches on Tuesday (December 1st), which honours World AIDS Day, according to the Associated Press. It can be entered by donated at least $10 through the Omaze website, and the winner will get to accompany the iconic frontman on a bike ride through New York’s Central Park, where he injured his arm so badly it required surgery this time last year.

The Irish rockers' new charitable track hit hard at Sunday's big game.
U2 gained maximum visibility at last Sunday's Super Bowl where the rockers debuted new single 'Invisible' to raise money for the charitable Red campaign in association with Bank of America. The track, which appeared on a commercial played during the football game, was launched to encourage viewers to support the charity.

For 24 hours after the ad aired, fans could download 'Invisible' for free via iTunes with Bank of America pledging to donate $1 (60p) to the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria each time the song is downloaded. During that time window, the bank also agreed to donate up to $2m (£1.2m) even though Fox Sports allegedly charged advertisers around $4m (£2.4) for each 30-second commercial.

Poehler's hubby Nick Kroll sent out the warning to the U2 frontman after he gave a congratulatory smooch to Poehler at the Golden Globes
Amy Poehler was awarded the Best Actress in a Television Series (Comedy) award at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards for her role as Leslie Knope in Parks and Recreation this weekend. It was a thoroughly deserved recognition and one that Poehler, who also co-hosted the event with Tina Fey, was overwhelmed with. The win also earned her a congratulator smooch from U2 frontman Bono, an extra that Poehler's boyfriend didn't approve of.
Poehler had a hectic night on Sunday, 12 Jan.
As Poehler got up to the stage to accept her award, she was congratulated by Bono, who has given a passionate kiss from Poehler, with the singer then receiving a light-hearted threat from Poehler's man Nick Kroll. He posted on his Twitter: "Hey Bono, watch your back," in an attempt to scare the singer into submission. So far, we don't think it worked.

'Spider-Man: Turn of the Dark' was doomed from the start.
Whoever thought doing a Spider-Man musical was a good idea shouldn’t be allowed to write things down, because it wasn’t, and after a huge waste of time, money and effort, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark has officially been removed from Broadway and shipped out to Vegas. The whole thing has been a nightmare, with major injuries and huge, high-profile legal cases blighting the musical’s progress.
The thing cost $75m to create (making it the most expensive musical ever), and while the show has grossed $203m, the high - $1m-per-week! - running costs have rendered it a financial disaster. Producer Jeremiah J Harris thinks a reconfigured version of the show will prosper in a different city, according to The New York Times.
"We could run for probably another three to five years being stuck in the middle. We think it will play Las Vegas with a greater bang than it did in New York,” explained Harris. “Economically we have a greater opportunity in the Las Vegas market," added the producer, who said the show would return in 2015.
The oft-troubled Broadway production of 'Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark' will close in January, before moving to Las Vegas
Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark was a relatively popular stage show throughout its two year run on Broadway, yet despite regular ticket sales and generally positive reviews, the Spiderman musical struggled to meet its huge budget every night and there were regular reports of infighting coming from the set. Producers have decided to cut their loses with the beleaguered stage production, and will relaunch the show in Las Vegas for 2015, a producer for the show told the Wall Street Journal.
The Spidey stage show has remained popular, but not popular enough
With a total cost of $75 million throughout its two plus years on the stage, the production regularly failed to break even, particularly so in more recent weeks. Last week alone, the stage production only managed to gross $742,595 from a potential gross of more than $1.5 million. This kind of disappointing display has been plaguing the production for some time now, and producers seem ready at last to cut their loses in the Big Apple and try out another city.
When Rick Hall opened up his record studio FAME Studios in the small town of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, it became something of a rock 'n' roll myth when some of the finest music ever written began to pour out of it. Hits from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding became international, and Hall even managed blur the distinction between white and black a little as his all-white session group, The Swampers, became deeply respected among the funk and soul artists. After the session group separated themselves from Hall, some of them set up their own studio, the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, and became the Muscle Shoals Sound Rhythm Section. From here, musicians began to shine their brightest as The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan all left that town as legends as if enchanted by the beauty of Muscle Shoals.

Muscle Shoals was just a town in Alabama with an extraordinary habit of producing some of the finest music in the world. It started out with Rick Hall and his FAME Studios, producing hits from the likes of Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding and Etta James. And not only that, even at the heart of racial distinction in America, he found the ability to join both black and white in unity over the love of soul music. Even after Hall's session group split up, some of them went to name themselves The Swampers, later becoming known as the Muscle Shoals Sound Rhythm Section when they opened the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. From here came legendary tunes from The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan. So just what was it that made Muscle Shoals the must-be place for artist in the seventies?

We've all had that moment; looking at photos of our favourite celebs and then jumping out of our seats screaming, 'He's HOW old?!' Well, we've been doing a lot of that here at ContactMusic. Some stars seem to have crept up the age ladder pretty sneakily, the odd wrinkle and grey hair barely registering on our radar, while others don't seem to have aged at all! English football player David Beckham was in his twenties when he rose to global popularity and, looking at his recent H&M underwear advert, it seems that his iconic hairstyles and tattoos are our only way of working out the old from the newer pictures of him. However, he is only 37 and has plenty of time to catch up yet. It's the over-50s that have really had our mouths agape in recent times as we've been scouring the net for the most youthful looking middle to old aged stars.

They never could keep out of the limelight for very long. With David Bowie announcing a shock return, Irish rockers U2 have opted to steal some of the returning legend's thunder by revealing to The Sun that they themselves are also back in the studio with a new album on the way. The multi-million selling group haven't been away for nearly as long as the Thin White Duke, or even pop stars Destiny's Child and Justin Timberlake, both who revealed their long-awaited comebacks last week. Their last album was 2009's No Line On The Horizon, whilst the group were touring as recently as 2011.

All eyes will be on Bruce Springsteen during Grammy’s week, as the New Jersey rocker will be the recipient of the MusiCares Person of the Year award. To celebrate the honour, a Bruce Springsteen tribute concert will take place in Los Angeles on February 8, 2013, featuring some of the biggest names in rock and pop and hosted by Jon Stewart.
The event, which is already sold out, will feature musical highlights such as Elton John, Kenny Chesney and Mumford And Sons. A whole host of musicians of varying genres and eras have been included in the line-up. Patti Smith, with whom Bruce co-wrote the hit ‘Because The Night’ will be there, as will Faith Hill, Emmylou Harris, as well as Alabama Shakes, Eddie Vedder and Neil Young. Proceeds for the concert will go to MusiCares, an organisation set up to provide support for struggling musicians in financial, medical and personal need.

Irish supergroup U2 arrived in Australia yesterday (31OCT06) to complete the postponed leg of their VERTIGO tour. Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr flew into Sydney from their Dublin base before heading to Australia's Gold Coast via private jet to prepare for the tour. The band's legion of Australian fans have been holding their tour tickets since March (06), when U2 suddenly postponed the concerts to allow The Edge to be with his family as a relative battled a serious illness. The eight-month break from their world tour allowed Bono the opportunity to launch his new initiative RED, which raises funds for women and children suffering from HIV/AIDS in Africa. The band also recorded a cover of punk anthem THE SAINTS ARE COMING with Green Day to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina in the US. Bono is currently in talks to appear as a special guest at the inaugural Make Poverty History concert in Melbourne, Australia on 17 November (06). The band's tour kicks off in Brisbane on Monday night (06NOV06).
For a movie about a wild man, Born into This is awfully tame. Director John Dullaghan does a commendable job of chronicling his subject's life, using Bukowski's various novels and poems as portals into his life experiences, but Dullaghan never challenges the audience to determine exactly what to make of Bukowski, either as a human or as a writer. Was he a misogynist or a sage? Is it possible to be both? What is his literary legacy? Why don't universities typically teach Bukowski? Do English professors know something the rest of us don't?
