Bosses at Netflix have acquired the distribution rights to War MAChine, a satirical comedy inspired by Michael Hastings' bestselling book The Operators: The Wild And Terrifying Inside Story Of America's War In Afghanistan, according to Deadline.com.

Pitt will produce the film through his company Plan B Entertainment and star as General Stanley MCChrystal, the commanding general of international and U.S. forces in Afghanistan, who resigned from his military post after criticising U.S. President Barack Obama in a Rolling Stone article in 2010.

Pitt says, "We are so excited to be a part of the inspiring commitment by Netflix to produce cutting-edge content and to deliver it to a global audience."

Director David Michod adds, "I'm humbled to be making a big, bold movie about the whole sprawling, complex, cumbersome and crazy machinery of modern war and the many lives it touches."

Production is expected to begin in August (15) ahead of a 2016 release.
