So, is Brad Pitt about to sign a deal to star in 'True Detective' season 2 or not? Some reliable sources seem to think so...
There’s been rumors buzzing around that Brad Pitt is set to star in True Detective season 2 since, well, True Detective season 1 ended. The show was an international success, with both Woody Harrelson and Matthew Mcconaughey highly praised for their roles as detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart.
Will Brad Pitt join the cast of True Detective?
It was unusual to see two such high profile actors taking time from their busy movie schedules to indulge in a little HBO series, but yikes did it pay off. With McConaughey riding high off his Oscar win for Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective, the actor, once famed for poorly penned rom coms, is now practically unstoppable. We're sure that Christopher Nolan feels like the cat who's got the cream, landing him for the upcoming Interstellar.

So, it’s no surprise that Brad Pitt potentially wants a piece of the True Detective pie. Since March he’s been the bookie’s favourite to join the cast of the show, and the Latin Post are now reporting that Pitt is close to signing off on the deal. The newspaper revealed that a senior television source from HBO has indicated it’s not unlikely that Pitt will take over from McConaughey and Harrelson, as he is already “a member of the HBO family.” Pitt was involved with producing the HBO movie The Normal Heart earlier this year so he’s already got his foot in the door. As if it would even be a problem if he hadn’t!
The newspaper adds that another source says that Pitt’s name crops up regularly in discussions about True Detective season 2 casting. Apparently the decision ultimately depends upon whether or not Pitt has the time to film the series as he may have other commitments.
The production of season 2 of True Detective, which was invented by Nic Pizzolato, has been just as mysterious as season 1. No details have leaked or emerged, although the season will allegedly not be concerned with solving a murder but with the detective who is trying to solve it. Essentially, that’s the crux of the first season as well. The actual murder story line wasn’t the strongest we’d seen, but the character studies of both McConaughey and Harrelson, combined with the utterly superb performances given by both actors, was the true appeal of the show.
McConaughey and Harrelson were highly praised for their performance in season 1 of True Detective
No word on whether it will just be a famous male actor who joins the cast, or if True Detective season 2 will feature a big female name as well. Sandra Bullock and Amy Adams’s names have been cropping up, although, as with Pitt, nothing is yet confirmed.
