World War Z is inching ever closer! The new Brad Pitt movie isn’t released until June 2013. Yes. June. 2013. But following an exclusive preview with Entertainment Online this week, the movie’s producers have released a proper cinematic trailer on YouTube, for all to see.
The trailer begins with an endearing family scene; Brad Pitt and Mireille Enos (who play the couple Gerry and Karen Lane) are in the car with the children, when all traffic suddenly comes to a standstill and the scene rapidly turns into one of horror. And zombies. There are, in fact, a LOT of zombies in this trailer. Like, a LOT of them. Piles and piles of zombies, cascading down a flight of stairs, more piles of zombies, storming around, trying to pile on top of each other and scale a wall. More piles of zombies, writhing around and looking like the most expensive pile of zombies in movie history.
World War Z is directed by Marc Forster, of Quantum of Solace fame, so if you’re a fan of the good old-fashioned b-movie zombie, then you’ll have to re-adjust your mindset for this one. These are fast-moving, modern versions of the undead and they look as though they’ve been training with Usain Bolt. Be afraid. Be very afraid. It’s a pretty slick affair, even by modern horror standards. Can Brad Pitt really be the shot in the arm that the zombie genre needs, though? Or will this be a case of World War Zzzzz?
