Bradley Cooper is in negotiations with Warner Bros about directing a remake of A Star Is Born. The hope for the studio is to have Cooper behind the camera and Beyonce playing the lead role of a young woman whose dreams of stardom are helped by a self-destructive, washed-up icon.

Beyonce was attached to the project when Clint Eastwood - Cooper's American Sniper collaborator - was going to helm the movie and the veteran filmmaker actually had Cooper in his sights for the male lead. The American actor will take a look at the script with Will Fetters - who wrote the most recent draft - and the hope is that he can begin work when he finished performing The Elephant Man in the West End.

Cooper is also attached as a producer through his 22 Green banner with the Hangover director Todd Phillips.

The American actor is now considered one of the most sought after talents in Hollywood. He's been nominated for two Oscars and is coming off the success of American Sniper, which has surpassed $528 million worldwide and is growing.

First directed by William Wellman in 1937, A Star is Born starred Frederick March and Janet Gaynor though was first made at Warners in 1954 with a George Cukor movie starring Judty Garland and James Mason. It was remade in 1976 with Frank Pierson directing Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand.

A new version of A Star is Born has been a priority for Warner Bros for some time and everyone from Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio to Will Smith and Christian Bale have been rumored for the male lead.
