A very unusual ‘supergroup’ Brakes (Alex and Tom from The Electric Soft Parade, Eamonn from British Sea Power and Marc from The Tenderfoot) might be perceived at first as a side-project, but they’re an absolutely brilliant band worth checking out.

A bunch of old friends from Brighton, their unique sound is something between classic country (with all its light-hearted feel) and garage rock madness. Songs such as ‘Heard About Your Band’ and first single ‘All Night Disco Party’ share genius lyrics and will make you want to jump up and down you room with the desire to see this band playing live. Hilarious moments such as track ‘Cheney’ (7 seconds in total, despite not being short of an explicit comment on the current US vice-president) are balanced by sheer country ballads like ‘Jackson’ – featuring sexy vocals from Liela Moss of The Duke Spirit – and delightful songs such as ‘You’re So Pretty’.

Listen to this album: it will raise your mood faster than a cup of espresso.
