Moviemaker Brett Ratner had two replica 1963 Ferrari 250 Gt Lussos built without engines for his new film Tower Heist, so the vehicles could easily be set up for scenes in what appeared to be Alan Alda's billionaire character's penthouse.
Ratner reveals he was inspired to include the car as an in-home attraction after admiring a Ferrari in Nicolas Cage's front room some years ago.
In Tower Heist, Ben Stiller's character smashes one of the fake vintage Italian sportscars with a golf club and Ratner admits that even though it was a replica, he had to turn away.
The car fan tells the Los Angeles Times, "It was painful to watch especially for my Italian cinematographer."
Universal Pictures now owns one of the fake Ferraris, and the other sits in Ratner's garage.
